Gabriela says she had a thin body, but gained weight after pregnancy. For 23 years, she suffered from the accordion effect and obesity. She struggled with panic disorder and depression, reaching a weight of 159 kilos.

Her friends, in order to motivate her, invited her to go to the gym, since she didn’t even feel like leaving the house. Until one day, when she was working out, she started hearing music and people were very excited.

She started asking where that loud noise was coming from… It was then that she found out what zumba was. The world’s largest dance fitness program. Until then, she says, she had never heard the word “zumba”.

At the beginning of her classes, Gabriela weighed around 159 kilos, and over time, she managed to lose 80 kilos without undergoing bariatric surgery. Afterwards, she went from being a student to being an instructor, and now she manages classes in some gyms and private condominiums in Rio de Janeiro.

Gabriela also spoke about the prejudice she suffered at the beginning of her career and the launch of her YouTube channel.

“I was 100 kilos, dancing at home, and the channel was only 1 month old; but many people made fun of me. Even when I started being an instructor, I kept the old videos to show that I lost weight in them. Even though some people made fun of me, I never took a video of myself off the channel.”

“My advice to someone who is being bullied is: never give up on yourself!”

She thanks her wife, Dr. Anna Izabel Castro; her family; and all the professionals who helped her. In addition to the classes, Gabriela also created the project “Tá na wave” which offers outdoor classes. His goal is to prove that it is indeed possible to exercise regardless of your weight or age.
