Rice biscuit fattening? – GOOD SHAPE

Chris Relative (/)

Yes. It is a food with a high glycemic index (GI) and therefore it becomes blood sugar quickly, stimulating the production of the hormone insulin. But this happens when it is consumed alone. “I always recommend combining rice crackers with good fat (avocado, extra virgin olive oil, hummus) and lean protein (cottage cheese, light tuna) to slow down the speed at which it is digested”, explains nutritionist Andréia Naves, from VP Nutritional Consulting, in São Paulo. Another strategy to hold the GI is to choose the rice cracker in the whole version – it has more fiber, substances that also help to hold the GI, making it more satisfying and less fattening than a cream cracker cookie or a stuffed cookie, in addition to be a good option for anyone trying to reduce gluten in their diet.
