Rhinomodeling: 7 questions answered about the procedure

Rhinomodelation has been an aesthetic option for those who want to correct some details of the nose without having to undergo surgery. The procedure provides safety, immediate discharge and rapid recovery. We consulted the dentist surgeon specialist in Orofacial Harmonization Dr Inara Guedes (CRO-RJ 35109) to ask questions about the technique. Follow the article!

What is Rhinomodeling?

The dental surgeon explains that “rhinomodelation is a minimally invasive procedure, in which we improve the appearance of the nose in a specific way. With the procedure, we corrected some details: level of the back (when the patient has a high bone or when he has depressions), we raised the nose, improved the shape of the tip and disguised the deviation in the back.”

“If performed by highly trained professionals, the procedure becomes quite safe. Rhinomodelation is different from rhinoplasty, as this is a very invasive surgery, in which the plastic surgeon or otolaryngologist can totally change the shape of the nose according to the needs of each patient. This surgery is performed in a hospital, as the patient must be hospitalized, and needs a long recovery time”, he adds.

7 questions about rhinomodeling

Below, see the most frequently asked questions about the procedure and ask your questions. Check out:

  1. How long does the procedure last? “It depends! Rhinomodeling with hyaluronic acid and PDO threads is not definitive and lasts around 9 to 12 months. Rhinomodeling with nylon threads can be definitive, if there is no rupture, infection or rejection”, informs the dental surgeon.
  2. What products? Temporary rhinomodeling is done with hyaluronic acid or PDO threads, while the definitive one is done with surgical nylon threads.
  3. At what age is it possible to perform rhinomodeling? According to Dr Inara, “ideally, any aesthetic procedure should be done from the age of 18, but we assess the emotional damage of the patient and, in some cases, we perform the procedure on patients over 15 years old, with the authorization of those responsible. .”
  4. Is the procedure really safe? “If performed by highly trained professionals, it becomes quite safe! However, it has its risks: hyaluronic acid can obstruct the flow of blood, leading to local necrosis, PDO threads can generate local infection and/or suffer rejection, and nylon threads can break, leading to recurrence, and can generate infection and/or rejection”, explains the dental surgeon.
  5. What is the value of rhinomodeling? Dr Inara informs that “the values are variable and an evaluation is necessary. But the temporary rhinomodeling varies from R$900 to R$1800 and the definitive one, from R$2000 to R$5000.”
  6. Can pregnant women perform the procedure? “They cannot, because there are no studies in pregnant women that prove the safety of the procedure. In addition, depending on the gestational stage, they cannot take anesthesia or medication, such as antibiotics and anti-inflammatories”, warns the dental surgeon.
  7. After how long is it necessary to retouch? Rhinomodeling with hyaluronic acid and PDO threads lasts around 9 to 12 months; after this period, retouching is possible.
