Read This When You Need Help Believing in Yourself

For someone unhappy with themselves.

I know who you are. I know who you are because I was you, I struggled with the same things as you. I let people judge and measure me, and because of that I always fell short. I starved to death. I fell and stayed on the floor. And for what?

Every time I looked in the mirror, I saw flaws. I saw wrinkles in places on my skin that shouldn’t have been. I saw vulnerability where it shouldn’t exist. I kept going until I saw bones, and even that wasn’t enough. I caught myself in this toxic cycle of disbelief.

I got lost trying to reach an unattainable level of perfection.

What made it even worse was that, in my most unhappy moments, people praised me. They said they wanted skinny legs like mine, abs like mine, or discipline like I have.

I stopped doing the things I like to please and impress others. The joy of validating others is meaningless without validating yourself. Won’t stand firm when life knocks you down. There won’t be anyone in the audience of life to clap for you if you don’t have the confidence to go on stage.

I’m not here to tell you how dangerous self-hatred is, how perfect you are, or how you have all the potential in the world.

All of this is true, yes, but I know from experience that you’ve heard it all too often. I’m here today to tell you that you are not alone. You’re not the only one who feels like you’re not good enough. You will have bad days, but there will be sunny days ahead.

It’s easy to hear the fear and insecurity as they scream lies that echo off the walls of your mind. They are noisy. They can grow to be deafening. If you let them, they will take control of your life. It will be increasingly difficult to discern the voice of the truth and the voice of the lie.

Fear is a dirty liar that will try to convince you to stay put. He will tell you that you are not good enough and that you are incapable of doing great things. He will encourage you to play dirty.

The truth is, today, I’m begging you to find those tiny voices, even if they’re just a whisper in your mind.

Those voices that remind you how beautiful, capable and kind you are. I challenge you to find these voices.

Some days it will be easier to find them than others. This takes practice, trust me. Takes time. But remember, you are not alone. You have me. You have your friends. You have your family. You have God. You have thousands of people who are going through the same thing.

I challenge you to find those voices that tell the truth and help you build your future self. I challenge you to, at the end of each day, write down the good things in your life and the things you’ve done that make you feel proud.

It won’t be easy, but you are stronger than fear. You are stronger than lies. Your voice is louder than your inner critic. You just have to believe it. Take the time to strengthen yourself and know that not every day will be a victory. But each day has its particularity, and I don’t know about you, but I’m living each one of them.
