Protein supplements: taste test –

There is no denying that protein supplements are extremely practical, especially for those looking to gain lean mass. This is because to reach the minimum necessary daily intake of protein we would have to eat an amount very large amount of foods that are sources of it.

As we explain in this All You Need To Know special about protein intake, the baseline recommendation is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body mass in generally healthy, untrained adults (i.e., a 160-pound person would consume about 54 grams per day).

However, this amount is only to prevent protein deficiency. It’s not necessarily ideal, especially for people who train regularly. For them, the needs of protein can go up to about 1.4-2.0 g/kg of body mass (our hypothetical 68 kg person would therefore need about 95-135 g of protein per day).

And that’s where supplementation comes in – which should always be done with a nutritionist’s follow-up. Protein supplements are the most practical way to reach this ideal amount.

A pleasant surprise. That’s because vegan protein supplements tend to be more granular, with a more “floury” texture. This one, despite not having the texture as liquid as its milk protein brother tested above, was very homogeneous and certainly with the least grainy texture among the vegan ones I’ve tried.

As for the taste, latte lovers will love it as it is the exact taste.

The Probiotica options also turned out to be great in terms of “ease of mixing”. The powder is fine and mixes without difficulty, which has a lot of (positive) interference in the taste, since the mixture is not watery and with concentrated pieces of powder, as with some alternatives.

The chocolate flavor is closer to cocoa, so those looking for an alternative with a more “milk chocolate” taste may not like it as much. But for those who prefer less sweet supplements, this one is perfect. And it still has the advantage of not containing lactose, for those intolerant.
