A little anecdote: I once worked in an office where a colleague kept her makeup intact from the moment she arrived until she left. I never understood why her makeup lasts so long and mine is completely melted by 3pm. Of course, the secret today seems obvious: primer.

HOW TO USE PRIMER?
Is your skin oily and makeup tends to separate or look smudged throughout the day? Choose a mattifying primer.
Is your skin dry and flaky and makeup only seems to emphasize the dry patches? Use a highly moisturizing primer.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A PRIMER?
If you are using a silicone based foundation then you should use a silicone based primer and vice versa. The same goes for if your foundation is water-based.
Typically, a thicker, silicone-based product is the best choice for full-coverage looks, as it helps to smooth out the skin’s texture, while a lighter, more fluid primer is best for more natural, sheer, or shimmery makeup looks.
So don’t skip reading the ingredients! We’ve all finished a perfect makeup, only for it to be ruined the second you put your phone to your cheek.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I USE PRIMER?
You don’t always have to use a primer, but there’s definitely no harm in using one every day — even if you’re looking for a natural makeup look. If you’re only using concealer, a primer can help it blend better into your skin. Furthermore, according to Adam Breuchaud, “One of the best reasons to use a primer is because it acts as a thin barrier that helps keep makeup from penetrating the skin. That’s why I use a primer on every makeup I do.”
