Poke: typical Hawaiian recipe to make at home –

(Proformabooks/)

A dish (or rather, a bowl) came from Hawaii that became a gastronomic trend this year in several Brazilian cities and that, because it has everything to do with summer, promises to be even more successful in the coming months. We are talking about poke – a recipe prepared with raw fish cut into cubes and marinated in a sauce, usually based on soy sauce and sesame oil and accompanied by shari (seasoned Japanese rice, the same used in sushi) or leaves, mushrooms, raw vegetables , fruit (avocado and mango), seaweed and sesame, depending on the restaurant.

The poke resembles Japanese food (actually, a temaki), with the difference that the fish is lightly marinated in the sauce. But neither is ceviche – a Peruvian dish in which the fish is “cooked” in lemon juice. Curious to try it? You can prepare it at home (follow the step-by-step recipe suggested by Poke Poke here).

The original version of poke came from a homemade dish made with Hawaiian albacore tuna, but you can use salmon or even a freshwater fish, such as tilapia. The mix of flavors is incredible and, without realizing it, you are sticking to your diet – that is, if you don’t get into the habit of adding cream cheese or other creamy cheese to the recipe, as some Brazilian restaurants are already doing.
