Nothing is taken from this life

“Coffins have no drawers” is one of the sayings I heard the most in the midst of tragedies and other situations involving death. And it’s a great truth. The only thing we take with us – if we take anything at all – is the way we lived. The loves experienced, the actions taken, the hearts that were touched. Everything done here continues to echo after it’s gone. All that was accomplished with Truth and Love remains with force.

This is my view, of course. I don’t think you need to agree with me, but I’ve learned from the goodbyes that the lingering impressions have a lot of strength. Good or bad, they are the ones that dictate the way others remember us. And, in this package, I may not even talk about a physical death, but in a figurative type too, when someone leaves one’s life and only memories remain.

However, going back to the eternal departure, I also think that we will never be 100% prepared to deal with it. The people who stay, without a doubt, will never be. Even in those moments when bad news is already expected, an outcome that puts an end to suffering, the arrival of said whose. The hole made in the chest cannot be filled by anything. It is the longing without medicine that is carried.

That’s why I will always continue preaching and wishing people to undo their tantrums, not to cultivate their grudges, to untie the fights and not to carry forward what weighs in the heart. Having a bad feeling corroding your chest is wasting the precious time we have here. Time that should be used to give, receive and multiply love, affection, attention, affection and the best that springs up.

The feeling it gives, finally, is of wanting to make a request – almost an appeal – so that one does not live in vain. Seek and conquer your dreams, build and fully live your loves, keep close and enjoy every second of the presence of those who make a difference to you, put passion in everything you do. Who knows what happens after this plan, but surely what is done well resonates.

For a time close to eternal, sometimes.
