Not everything in the past was better, the best is yet to come.

It is not difficult to imagine why a popular proverb has become as famous as the one that says: All the past time was better and why writers like Ernesto Sábato included it in some of their works. This opposite to The best is yet to come It is born from that nostalgic vision, especially from older people who have lived many years, because of everything that has happened in their lives.

However, Longing for what has been lost does not allow us to enjoy what we still have to experience. Therefore, not every time in the past was better but, as the great Mafalda would say, The best is yet to come.

We have a wonderful ability to surprise ourselves again and again that we should not waste.as if there were always new things to know, learn and feel on our skin.

What I want is life to turn out well

That is, both things are part of nature, Happiness and crying complement each other and are equally real and obligatory.. We want life to ‘turn out well’, but we don’t assume that indicates moments of all kinds: good and bad, falling off the mountain again and again until we reach the top.

We do not usually accept that this ‘life’ is the one that truly allows us to live fully until we value all the positive things it offers us, which is the one that stirs us, shakes us and drives us to grow. That’s why ‘the best is yet to come’ because mountains, like emotions, are infinite until we stop living.

Life begins at 40

Mafalda also said, with great reason, that life begins at forty. It is at this stage that we have lived long enough to begin to admit that The past is learning and, sometimes, nostalgia.

This is when we understand that the future is illusory because it depends on the present. and that this present is the only one that shapes what is to come: we have the opportunity to continually improve and not go backwards.

At forty, we begin to realize that happiness does not depend on anyone other than ourselves and Then we also begin to demand from life what we truly deserve.: we love each other a little more, we are more humble and we dream with greater coherence.

That is to say, we understand our limits and we’ve experienced enough downfalls to know there’s always something better.

We can never ignore the current moment of our lives because, as we have said, it is only from there that we can establish sufficient principles for tomorrow.

In the same way that remembering is not bad, neither is dreaming: We must make dreams that keep us excited and alive. However, we cannot let dreams lose us in our own reality.

The best is yet to come from the moment we accept all this: a past that serves as a tool to sustain ourselves in the present and a future that maintains our curiosity but allows us to be subject to the most immediate ground.

The best is yet to come just as not everything known bad is better than what is new to know: There will always be a glimmer of positivity that can help us grow and not stagnate.
