Nobody is like you and that is your power

If you compare yourself to others in a single dimension or facet, you will always find someone more attractive, more intelligent or witty than you. However, no one in this world has the essence that gives you your own and non-transferable value.

Written and verified by the psychologist Elena Sanz.

Self-confidence is essential in all areas of life. It is our safety net, the base that allows us to explore the world and unfold our personality. However, it is also a pending task in the personal growth of many of us. Therefore, today I want to remind you that no one is like you and that, precisely, is your power.

It is easy to see that you lack self-confidence, because you constantly feel that you are playing a role.. Your reactions, your decisions, your way of relating… are not genuine.

Every step you take is rigidly considered and deliberate in order to conform to what others expect of you. Or, on the contrary, you live trapped in the uncontrolled reactions of your ego that never stops trying to defend you from rejection or humiliation.

Anyways, You prevent yourself from being you because you do not consider that what you are is valid or enough. And there is nothing more painful than living in denial of yourself. However, where does this fear of not being adequate originate? When did we lose track of our own value?

Comparisons are destructive

Practically from the moment we are born we are subjected to comparisons. We were the most restless baby, the least smiling or the one who learned to walk later. As we grow up, we are urged to be as obedient as our brother, as sociable as our cousin, or as athletic as our neighbor. Once we start school the standards materialize numerically.

They judge our capabilities based on a rigid and unequal system and They associate our self-worth with our grades. We grow up being the smartest, the laziest, the most diligent or the one with the least capacity for languages. It is never us, but us in comparison to others.

No one would evaluate a fish on its ability to climb a tree or a bird on its ability to dive. However, uniform expectations are established to which we all must conform and that will define the image we have of ourselves.

In reality, this competitive system in which we have been immersed since early childhood produces damage that is independent of the student’s grades. Well everyone They teach us to compare ourselves, to measure our value by our ability to meet other people’s expectations.. The system does not guide or motivate us to discover who we really are, who we want to be.

Nobody is like you

With this baggage It is not surprising to find that we feel insecure in our jobs, with our partners and in our social and family relationships. The reasoning is logical:

Why would they give me this job, if there are many people with more education and experience? Why would my partner want to stay by my side if there are others who are more attractive, intelligent and interesting? What reason do my friends have for wanting to spend time with me, if I’m not particularly fun or witty?

With such fragile self-confidence, it is almost impossible to refuse, oppose or assert one’s own rights. Confronting or arguing would make us lose points in our life grade and would lead us to dismissal from work or emotional abandonment of our loved ones. Do you perceive the harshness of the mental cage in which we live?

All this happens because We have lost sight of something really essential: no one is like you. Nobody. There is no other human being on earth who has your particularities. No one will be able to contribute the same thing that you contribute either to your job or to your personal relationships.

Remember your power

Yes, there will always be someone taller, thinner, more creative and more experienced. However, no one is like you. Only you can offer your essence: that is your great power.

Of course, another person could do your job, they could meet your friends or go out with your partner, but they would never be able to offer what you have to give. We are all replaceable, but irreplaceable.

Therefore, begin to value everything you are and what you have to offer. Remember your unmatched brilliance and don’t be afraid to show it. Forget comparisons, standards and expectations. You are valuable simply for who you are, because no one else is.
