Happy is he who finds in Love, in addition to a lover, a friend.

Because far beyond the feeling born of the desire to have and be with the other, there is the bond of friendship that maintains an even more perfect harmony between the two. Being a partner with the person next to you supporting you in your projects and dreams is as important as being your partner in bed.

Perhaps there really is no such thing as a flawless relationship. As all of us human, we are susceptible to slip-ups. But without a doubt, it’s the mutual commitment to the smile on each other’s faces that makes some of these near-perfect relationships.

I was once asked why I always wanted to avoid fights and try to resolve impasses with her as soon as they arose. I joked by replying that it had taken me more than 20 years of my life to find someone who would make me happy like that. I wasn’t going to let a disagreement affect us.

I do not think, of course, that it is necessary to overlook some things and remain silent on others. I believe that being that friend for whom we love is also pointing out flaws and indicating safer paths. Or, who knows, even some other daring, but that brings you even closer to a goal.

Understand: having the role of partner is not just to pass your hand on the other’s head.

It takes sincerity, understanding, affection. Building something so meaningful and that becomes synonymous with Shelter, making a home from the arms of the other, is hard work. As much as everything naturally leads to this, no love (with a capital “a”) is made overnight.

Happy are those who have the patience to do so.
