Moro soup to stop diarrhea quickly

Moro’s carrot soup can stop diarrhea very well. The special thing about this soup is that it is cooked for a long time, during which the so-called Oligogalacturonic acids, which are not present in raw carrots, but are extremely effective in inhibiting the bacteria that cause diarrhea.

But even if the effect of carrot soup seems to be due to its antibacterial effect, experience has shown that often an excellent remedy for diarrhea that occurs as part of non-infectious chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Professor Moro, inventor of anti-diarrheal carrot soup

The soup is named after an Austrian pediatrician, Professor Ernst Moro (1874-1951), who created it in 1908 as a home remedy for diarrhea, drastically reducing mortality and complication rates in children from diarrheal diseases.

At the time, this was an achievement, since 95% of the high infant mortality rate in households was a consequence of diarrhoea. So there were no antibiotics.

How exactly does Moro’s carrot soup work?

Professor Josef Peter Guggenbichler, emeritus of the Erlangen University Children’s Hospital, was able to show in a 1983 study that the soup can prevent diarrhea-causing bacteria from attaching to the intestinal wall.

After another study in 2002, he wrote in the Wien Med Wochenschrift that oligogalacturonic acids resemble receptors on the intestinal epithelium and that pathogenic intestinal bacteria, such as E. coli or salmonella, bind to acids and stop adhering to the intestinal wall where they would cause damage.

In fact, a concentration of only 0.005% oligogalacturonic acids is enough to completely block bacteria, They are easily excreted in the feces.

Carrot soup works better than glucose and electrolyte solutions

Clinical studies have also shown, as Guggenbichler wrote in the aforementioned study, that the use of aqueous carrot preparations in acute gastrointestinal infections in children is more effective than the balanced solution of glucose and electrolytes.

Electrolyte solutions do not contain much more than sodium chloride, glucose, and potassium, while Moro’s carrot soup also provides a set of nutrients, such as calcium, iron and vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene.

Moro carrot soup, the recipe

It is recommended to take the soup several times a day on an empty stomach for a few days right at the onset of diarrhea. It is crucial that the carrots are cooked long enough, because only then are the active substances released. The soup is prepared as follows:

Ingredients:

500 g carrots, peeled and chopped 1 liter of water (add a little more water later) 3 g of salt

Elaboration:

Boil the carrots in the water for at least an hour. Then pass the soup through a sieve or puree the carrots with an arm blender.Add boiled water to make up to a quart of soup or puree and add the salt.

Can other foods be added to Moro’s carrot soup?

You can improve the flavor of the original recipe by adding a little fresh ginger or half a grated apple. Add these ingredients to the finished soup.

If the soup is for a small child, it’s best to stick to the three main ingredients.

Can you eat something else when you have diarrhea?

The soup is considered more of a remedy than a food. This means that if you have an appetite, you can also take the normal diet for diarrhea (grated apple, banana, biscuits, mashed potatoes (only made with potatoes, water and salt), zucchini rice soup, porridge, etc.

How is Moro carrot soup taken and dosed?

The soup is taken in small amounts several times a day, in addition to the light diet. For example, two to four tablespoons are taken every hour or a small bowl every two hours. The amount is adapted to the age and weight of the patient.

Why does carrot soup work better than antibiotics?

For a long time, the healing soup was considered the standard medicine for diarrhea, but from the 1940s it lost importance due to the use of antibiotics and the typical medication for diarrhea.

According to Guggenbichler, carrot soup has the advantage over antibiotics in that it does not lead to the development of resistance or attack the intestinal flora and it is also free of harmful side effects.
