Microneedling: 3 myths and truths about aesthetic treatment –

Microneedling has something to talk about: it’s a hit on social media and on friends’ circles, and is seen as a solution to aesthetic issues from head to toe. But does it even solve stretch marks? Yes! The technique uses devices with multiple mini-needles to activate circulation and collagen production to promote natural skin renewal.

Dermatologist Karla Assed, from Rio de Janeiro, reveals myths and truths about the method.

1. Does not work on white stretch marks: MYTH.
There are several types of microneedling, ranging from homemade devices (dermaroller) to radiofrequency treatments and drug delivery (application of medication on newly treated skin) done in the office. The latter are more suitable for white brands. Attention: a doctor must analyze your case, the size of the needles and the most suitable active ingredients (vitamin C, ferulic acid, retinoic acid, caviar…).

2. It hurts: TRUE.
It is common to feel a bearable discomfort in the application – after all, they are needles. But don’t get tense! A local anesthetic, applied 30 minutes before the start of the session, makes everything smoother.

3. Anyone can do: MYTH.
Despite being democratic (it can be applied to dark, light, young, sensitive skin…) and offering a quick recovery, the procedure has caveats: a tendency to keloids or the presence of small sores on the skin.
