Piebaldism, also known as partial albinism, is a rare, genetic disorder that is characterized by a lack of melanin in parts of the body. Usually on legs, arms and parts of the scalp. Melanin is the natural pigment that gives color to skin and hair and protects us from the sun. At the points of the body where there is a lack of it, the individual loses protection.

Mayah Aziz Oliveira (that’s her name), became successful on the Internet by having her essay newborn (newborn) published by photographer Paula Beltrão. She was born at Sofia Feldman Hospital, in Belo Horizonte (MG). And she is the daughter of publicist Talyta Youssef, 40 years old, who also has this small genetic difference.

Talyta said that the surprising detail drew attention from the time of birth. It was the surprised surgeon who announced that the baby had “lights in her hair”.

She says that at the maternity ward, people have already started taking pictures of her and visiting her. She was hospitalized for 4 days and then the nurses and even the cleaning staff started visiting and taking pictures. And soon these photos already started to rotate. Mayah was born successful.

The first in Mayah’s family to develop this genetic difference was her great-grandfather; then her grandmother, Naja. Talyta says that, as a child, she felt a lot of shame because the issue also affected some parts of the skin. His childhood and youth left marks and pain on him because of the bullying he suffered.

Only as an adult did Talyta manage to develop a good relationship with her hair. Mayah, according to her mothers, must have a slightly easier life. Nowadays, the question is better known and more accepted.
