“Love”: listen to the child inside you

Do you know the work Love by Milov located in Odessa, Ukraine? This wonderful sculpture invites you to reflect on how we turn off the inner child. And how this appears illuminating when we let ourselves be carried away by resentments.

Love is the word that the Ukrainian sculptor Alexander Milov chose to name his work of art, the one that It has not left anyone indifferent who has had the privilege of seeing it.. This sculpture shows two adults made of wire standing back to back, each with their inner child trying to reach the other.

This 8-meter sculpture was seen for the first time at the Burning Man Festival held in the United States in 2015. At this meeting between artists, thousands of works of art were presented, including Love drew special attention. And no wonder.

Love shows us a scene of conflict between a man and a woman reflected by the wire cages that surround them. The touching thing comes from inside those bodies: the innocence that they both carry inside and that they seem to have forgotten.

How we stop listening to our inner child

The show does not remain only in the structure of Love since, to the surprise of the spectators, the image acquires an additional meaning: As the night approaches, the inner children light up. This unexpected singularity manages to envelop the viewer in a halo of inescapable reflection.

With the arrival of darkness, the hard and rigid wires take a backseat, leaving absolute prominence to the children they carry inside and who refuse to be separated. They refuse to let the true nature of the human being, which is to love, be defeated by resentment.

Seeing the two illuminated children trying to reach each other can be interpreted as a signal, like an alarm button that tells us “enough.” These inner children come to life when it’s dark outside, so It illuminates what the adult mind does not allow him to see.

According to the artist, light takes on the meaning of purity, leaving room for the opportunity to solve our conflicts. And in childhood everything is simpler. Problems are not important if we want to be with the other person, with only one approach is enough to forgive yourself and be well again. It seems that as the years go by we forget it and we give way to feelings that lead nowhere. Pride, shame, responsibilities… separate us from others and from our own feelings.

«The light represents the purity and sincerity that unites people and gives the opportunity to fix things when dark times arrive.».

Alexander Milov

Your inner child never stops shining

Hope and innocence arise from within us, right where the true nature of the human being lives latent; the one that seems to get lost as we get older. This sculpture is a wonderful way to represent it: We are a metal cage inside which goodness is trapped of our inner child, the one we haven’t seen for a long time.

Inside that armor remains the purest and most sincere part of the human being, that which shines when the night comes and that gives people the opportunity to fix things when it’s already very dark outside. Those two children are gaining strength as the night progresses, as everything becomes blacker and blurrier out there. These little ones gradually win the battle as they approach each other until they achieve physical contact through their hands.

A new opportunity for understanding

Perhaps it is true that adults do not We are more than metal cages determined to want to be right at all costs.. But it is more true that the only thing we do with that is distance you from our true nature. When we argue with someone we become exactly that, human beings designed in the form of a hard and metallic shell, in the form of pain and resentment, unable to change our position and show ourselves face to face with our equals.
