Lapland, province that has 3 hours of daylight in winter and 24 hours in summer

Traveling is taking yourself to new experiences, sensations and feelings. It is during a trip that we are exposed to a new reality full of diversity that makes us confront our ideas, forcing us to open our minds to new experiences, cultures and different ways of looking at life and the world.

Therefore, today the awesome.club introduces you to Lapland, a Finnish province that is unknown to many, but is perhaps one of the most unique destinations for any Brazilian. Check it out!

Santa’s Land

The house of Bom Velho is at the North Pole, in the city of Rovaniemi, in the Lapland region, in the extreme north of Finland. Well, that place exists. A place where temperatures reach -30ºC and darkness reigns.

The weather

During the 8 winter months, the sun usually rises at 11:30 am and sets around 2:30 pm. The other 4 months left are their spring, and that’s when that timid winter sun shines brightly and never goes away. That’s right you read, 24 hours of light.

ice hotels

Rovaniemi has a range of types of accommodation, from hotel rooms to chalets, to suit all tastes and budgets. In Santa Claus Village you can find a hotel made entirely of ice. So guests don’t turn into penguins overnight, the rooms are adorned with fur and coats suitable for extreme temperatures.

Gastronomy

Fish are the most common foods, and there are few options for vegetables, greens and fruits. The delicacies are beyond different — reindeer and bear meat. And there are also ice restaurants where the thermal sensation reaches −11ºC.

Many travelers say that these restaurants usually have an old, kind and very cute waitress. Unmissable!

saunas

In Finland it is quite common to see groups of family and friends taking advantage of a nice date to go to a sauna for a few hours. For a local, it might sound offensive if a tourist refuses this moment of coexistence and social pleasure.

There are even more saunas than cars in the country. You can even find one at a Burger King in the provinces.

ice bath

Besides the sauna, the other common practice is diving into ice holes. Just like those who live close to the beach who can leave work and go for a swim. But there people go to the locker room, change their bathing clothes and walk in slippers in the greatest calm until they enter the water.

Tours

One of Lapland’s favorite activities, in addition to visiting Santa’s village, includes a reindeer ride. Whether it’s a safari or a lesson in how to guide a sleigh, the fact is that you can’t miss the opportunity to interact with reindeer.
