Here in the awesome.club, we believe that everyone should have the chance to recognize their mistakes, improve behavior and evolve as a human being, doing the best for themselves and for others. So today, we want to share this story of fresh start and discoveries. Check out!

The career

Born in Curitiba, Karoline dos Santos Oliveira, better known by her stage name Karol Conká, is a singer and songwriter who, since 2011, has stood out in the national and international rap scene. The release of the album Batuk Freak, in 2013, further boosted the singer’s career, who scored one success after another and even ventured into other jobs, such as presenter and actress. The artist was in front of programs such as Superbonita, on GNT, participated in the series Carcereiros, on Globoplay, and produced programs for internet platforms, such as Prazer Feminino, among other works.

From 2013 to 2021, nothing seemed to get in the way of Karol’s career, which was on the rise, including the rapper’s participation in international festivals. In 2014, she performed in Japan, Australia, Germany and France and started her international career. In 2021, her participation in Big Brother Brasil was announced, filled with expectation and much celebrated by fans.

The cancellation

Still within the program, the singer had already realized that she was not well. She even spoke to a psychologist as she intended to drop out of the competition. Inside the house, in conversation with Carla Diaz, after a heated argument in the early hours, she admitted: “I have a problem with my animosity, really. When I freak out, my tongue turns into a bazooka and I want to transfer all my pain by talking things over to others,” she apologized.

At another time, in a conversation with Projota, shortly after giving up on leaving the program, she said: “When we make mistakes, we take and erase all the good we did. I have to admit that I’m explosive and I have a problem with wanting to control everything. But I have to know how to finish this game. I’ll have to look at the people judging me and I won’t have to. I have a habit of controlling everything, but there’s something inside that I don’t know how to control and it’s my feelings. Now, wait until Tuesday. What can I do now? Just admit the mistake and apologize. The problem is that guilt corrodes.”

Shortly after her elimination, Karol had to confront the percentage of votes that took her out of the program: 99.17% rejection. She told what she felt at that moment: “It was really bad, it was terrible. I think one of the worst pains I’ve ever had in my life. The first was losing my father, then this was. Then came the pain of mass rejection, my disappointment with myself, seeing the people I care about being attacked, it was a mix.” The singer sought psychological help to face the reality that awaited her out here, as she could no longer smile or walk down the street.

the resumption

As soon as he left the program, Karol had to confront his attitudes at home. First, it was the traditional breakfast at Mais Você, where she had to face the most embarrassing moments she had had in the house and comment on them, admitting to being embarrassed: “I knew I was wrong and I was invaded by bitterness. I got lost in the game, I surrendered to this sour side. I took my disturbance into the house, threw it on everyone else and made them sad. I freaked out inside the house, I recognize my mistake and I’m going to try to get better,” she told her.

Then, the recording of the documentary A Vida Além do Tombo began, recorded in April 2021 and available on Globoplay. The report series followed the singer in the resumption of life and post-BBB career, in the reflections she made after leaving the program, in the support she received from family and friends. In addition, the work tells what Karol’s life was like, in an attempt to show the story behind the highly reactive behavior during the period in which she was confined.

This process, together with the psychological treatment and the resumption of the work that consecrated her, made Karol discover some things about herself: “In my case, I really didn’t know how to deal with an environment that pressured me, forced me to compete, to question, to disagree… Once it goes, but to live it every day… There comes a time when the water, from hitting the stone so much, pierces. I didn’t know how to deal with it and I sought to understand more about emotional intelligence, about how to deal with moments of pressure because I was also traumatized,” she said.

The lessons

Four months after the BBB21, Karol participated in the program Triangulando, with Thelminha Assis, winner of the BBB20, where she admitted: “I am intense, I am in my self-knowledge and I am digesting my attitudes that I disapprove. I’m reviewing attitudes that shame me a lot, but today I can smile. I spent a long time not being able to smile. I spend hours of my day seriously. I’m still not back to normal and I don’t think I will be. I think that’s good. I’m enjoying this process of evolution.”

In April 2022, the album Urucum was released. In this work, Karol reflects his different personalities, talks about what he has lived and, therefore, considers it as part of his therapeutic process: “I wrote the album in two weeks. That’s why I say it was a therapeutic process. because I was writing, I was suffering, I cried, I stopped in the middle of producing the song to be sad because I remembered something, it was very traumatic. In the meantime, I had panic disorder, it was a lot. The only thing that made me stop crying and feeling pain was when I played music,” she says.

Karol says he relied on five pillars to get through this difficult phase and come out of it stronger: “I see the turbulent moments in my life as an invitation to learn. So I focus on faith, self-knowledge, therapy, the love of people who know me and the beautiful career I have out here.”

Karol’s commitment to therapy stimulated the creation of the program Vem K, produced for the artist’s IGTV, where the theme of mental health is the focus. The return to the stage was also marked by emotion and, if anyone believed that the artist’s career was over, she was wrong: “Yesterday I went on stage after two years without feeling the energy of the audience at a show. I was moved at all times, while I sang, I remembered everything that happened that year and I could only feel gratitude for being with mine, for being alive and resilient, for being able to sing about my experiences, for seeing each one’s face. singing along with me. This show is proof that I was never alone and that life after the fall is more satisfying and full of learning when we allow ourselves. You always tell me that my art saved your life and I say that your recognition and affection saved my life too”, she concludes.
