Jorge Suquet: “I am Asturian by adoption, it is a land that gives me a lot of peace”

“Asturias is where I get the best mood, no matter how I am, I always manage to disconnect, it is a land that gives me a lot of peace.” The Madrid actor Jorge Suquet (1980) takes advantage of any time of the year to escape to his family's house between Colunga and La Isla. This week he will spend a few days in the land that he loves so much after having premiered yesterday in cinemas all over Spain the film “Where two fit”, which has a very large cast among which Ana Milan, Raúl Arévalo and Ernesto Alterio stand out.

Jorge Suquet: “I am Asturian by adoption, it is a land that gives me a lot of peace”

Jorge Suquet, who has participated in series such as “Elite”, “The Hunt” or “Libertad”, considers himself “Asturian by adoption”. His connection with the province dates back to when he was barely six years old and he came for the first time to a camp in Salinas, which he repeated for five summers in a row. That was where he first got the acting bug with the various plays they performed. Since his parents bought the house in the Colunga council about twelve years ago, the actor has fallen more and more in love with “the landscape, the food and the people there.”

“You look one way and you have the mountain, you look the other and you have the beach, they are incomparable places for my taste,” praises Jorge Suquet, who is grateful that despite the tourism possibilities that this land may have, it is not perverting the environment and respecting the “wild nature” that characterizes Asturias. The weather is not an impediment for him, since he is eager to escape the “scorching heat of Madrid” and he even claims that it does not even bother him when it rains. “Sometimes you have all four seasons in the same day, each morning is a different adventure depending on the weather, but here there are always things to do.”

Suquet also has very good words for Asturian gastronomy, confessing to having a “serious obsession with corn cakes”: “Sometimes I order them as an accompaniment instead of bread.” He also loves les fabes, rice pudding and “the potato omelette from the “Las Vegas” Hotel in Colunga, the best I have ever tried.” The actor also has good words for the Asturians, whom he defines as “unpretentious, very upright, friendly and without frills”, while among his favorite corners of the Principality he highlights the coastal path that connects the beach of La Isla with that of La Griega, although she recognizes that she could not stay with just one.

Regarding the film that has just been released, “Where Fits Two”, directed by Paco Caballero and produced by Filmax and Netflix, Jorge Suquet assures that it is a very appropriate film for the times we are in. “It is a very suggestive film to enjoy in the summer, it is fresh and fun, it is perfect to see at a drive-in or in an open-air cinema. The plot revolves around a swingers club in which multiple stories are presented and serve as a pretext to talk about different options for viewing sex, love and interpersonal relationships.

“The film shows the wide diversity that exists in relationships, there are many stories and all the people who sit down to watch it will feel identified with some of them, it is very important to talk openly about these issues so that they can be Respect all options,” explains the actor. In the film he plays Miguel, a young man who has been going with his partner (played by Verónica Echegui) to the swingers club for years and who is becoming addicted to it and begins to stop taking his girlfriend into account because he is too focused on himself and his enjoyment.

In addition to this invitation to reflect on personal relationships, Suquet highlights the film's main intention is to make viewers have a good time and defines the explosion of physical contact that occurs in the film as “very suggestive.” “In these times of pandemic where contact between people has become a stranger, this film brings a lot of freshness, it is very bright and with a lot of energy, and the good vibes between the entire cast manages to cross the screen,” he explains.

The actor emphasizes that right now the covid is “one more element in the filming” and that everything is “very controlled” on this issue. “A lot of budget is allocated to control it, because an outbreak forces the entire team to be confined, with the expense and delay that this entails.”

Jorge Suquet has the series “Lord, give me patience” pending to premiere on Antena 3 and in the coming weeks he will join a new filming, before which he will enjoy his beloved Asturias for a few days, with the hope of one day having to film here. “I'm looking forward to recording in Asturias, the only thing I've done has been theater at the Niemeyer in Avilés, but I would love to have a project lasting several weeks and be able to stay at my house in Colunga during the entire filming, it would be for me the ideal job, I would enjoy it a lot,” he comments with a laugh.
