If you are heading towards the Aegean Sea, you will come to an island surrounded by turquoise waters, hidden in the Mediterranean, with about 20 km² of nature, the island Antikythera. There is only one city there, called Potamos. It seems like a place lost in time, but this small island caught our attention at the beginning of the 20th century, when, in a place close to its coast, a device with more than 2,000 years was found, which today is considered the first computer in history: the Antikythera machine.

Over time, the island fell into oblivion, but today there is hope to regain the glory days, with an increase in the number of inhabitants.

Recently, the island launched a campaign to populate the site with the support and sponsorship of the Greek Orthodox Church. The project seeks to attract large families who are willing to transform their lives and move to this paradisiacal place. In return, the lucky ones will be rewarded with a house, land to grow food or set up a business, as well as a monthly salary equivalent to 2,100 reais during the first three years of residency.

The measure emerged as a possible solution for the scarce number of inhabitants of the island, a place that today has only 20 residents. This number is the result of both the decrease in the birth rate and the migration of adults to various cities in search of better economic opportunities. Therefore, the project is mainly aimed at families with children.

The government will give preference to Greek citizens, although people of any nationality can be chosen. The first families have already moved to Antikythera and, thanks to the children who came with them, the local school has reopened, which had been closed for over 24 years.
