Are you from the group that loves to pass a soap on the face and does not dispense with an exfoliant or the good sponge? Obviously, we take care of the skin to make it always clean and smooth. But did you know that this beauty ritual can actually cause acne and other skin problems? To make your life easier, dermatologist Karla Assed, a member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology (RJ), explains which habits can compromise your skin’s health:

Do you use water that is too hot or too cold?
Cold water closes the pores, which does not allow the natural secretion of sebum and acne-causing bacteria. Already the warmer temperature opens the pores and stimulates the production of excess sebum, which leaves the skin more prone to irritation.

Do you take many showers a day?
Yes, taking multiple showers can be a problem, as your skin can become irritated. “When the skin’s natural protection is removed, caused by excessive bathing, the individual can develop eczema, a reaction that causes a lot of itching, reddish and scaly lesions caused by dryness”, explains dermatologist Karla.

Your hair products…
Shampoos, especially those that contain sulfates, can trigger acne. Therefore, choose products free of the substance and give preference to organic ones. “The use of too much conditioner and hair cream can cause acne and seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp”, warns Karla.

you exfoliate too much
Aggressive exfoliation with very strong products or sponges can cause significant skin irritation and also trigger acne. In addition, according to Karla, exfoliation can irregularly remove blackheads on the skin and induce the formation of pimples.
