“I didn’t even wait 24 hours”, the beautiful adoption story of the family that took in a teenage girl

Carina Henzel is from Rio Grande do Sul and lives in São Paulo. She wanted to mother a girl, but she didn’t want to adopt a baby. Her story began when she met Sharon in foster care. The girl was already over 8 years old. The desire for adoption arose some time later, naturally. From then on, the two never parted again.

The meeting between Carina and her daughter Sharon took place in an unusual way in an adoption process. She decided not to adopt a baby, as she wanted to experience late motherhood. Her daughter came into her life when she was 15. “I always joke when I say that my baby was born with a height of 1.60 m, 50 kg and with a foot wearing size 37”, she said in an interview.

Sharon arrived at foster care at the age of 7, and stayed there until she was 15, when she was adopted by Carina. “Everything happened quickly and quite smoothly. The wait is only long for those with a restricted profile. And it’s simple: there aren’t babies for everyone. If the adopter is prepared for a child over 8 years old, he won’t wait. In my first process, I didn’t even wait 24 hours. There was simply no queue”.

Carina trusts in the power that women have to live life. And, therefore, she has the dream of strengthening her daughter with her teachings on what it means to be an empowered girl. ”I love women more than men. I understand that women are the future of the world. The feminine energy for me is sacred, as it is what gives rise to life, “she said.

The two created a strong affective bond by living different experiences. “Together, we adopted pets, we organized her room to match her personality, we took a lot of trips. I’ve been to her band’s concerts (which I’ve seen almost all of them to this day). We go through the arrival of the birth certificate and each bulletin, which always has good grades. Each achievement of hers is a unique experience. She is very observant and I learn that from her. She teaches me how to be a mother ”.

Carina listened to the song Portão, whose lyrics talk about someone who is so expected and loved that, after he arrives, it’s like there was no before. “My world, from now on, is like planting a garden. I don’t know how long we waited. Until, one day, finally, you are part of me”, says the lyrics of the song performed by Ayrton Montarroyos and posted by her.

It is with this feeling of hope that she decided to expand her family and adopt another girl. This time, Carina wants to have the experience of mothering a baby, which she sees as starting motherhood backwards, since she started with a teenager. “I qualified for a second adoption in 2020. I’ve been in line ever since. This time, a girl from 0 to 2 years old. For selfish reasons of wanting to know what the experience is like. I’m curious to meet my youngest child ”, she says .

Carina got to know a series of new elements and feelings with the arrival of Sharon. With her daughter, she can learn to be more balanced, patient and mature. In addition to seeing up close what it is to prepare someone for life in the world. “The constant search for balance is my biggest challenge and learning experience. I also see myself more mature and reflective about every word I say and every attitude I have”.

She also noted that it is true that children are raised for the world. “This is the biggest responsibility I have ever felt. I even doubted that there was maternal guilt and today I live that feeling”. With her daughter, she notes that she is succeeding by noticing Sharon’s attitudes and upbringing. “I contribute to a better world for her and I realize that every time she separates the garbage, gets involved in social projects and shows respect for other living beings”, she says.

For her, the adoption process is extremely simple in Brazil. Carina is undergoing a second adoption, this time with the bride (pictured above). ” Dani arrived and adopted Sharon in her love, in her care, and became a mother. Not the second mother, but the “two mother”. Dani adopted the dream of motherhood and the girls along with me ”, she told in a publication on her social network, where she talks about late adoption.

She recommends a lot of reflection for anyone who wants to be a mother or father. “Expectations are healthy and help our sons and daughters grow to become their best selves. Idealization is dangerous and cruel. Ask yourself if you are capable of creating free people. If they are able to understand that giving limits and saying no does not make them love us any less. Educate by example and look more at your children than cell phone screens. Understand, despite everything, that children are not for us, but we are for them, with limits that always establish a healthy relationship”.
