“I did a personal color analysis and I was scared” –

Maybe it was languishing – that state of emptiness and stagnation that caught so many of us in the pandemic and we address it here. Maybe it was a mix of laziness and overload of things to do. But the truth is that I stopped getting ready to work from home! More than a year and a half later, he began to miss the clothes in his wardrobe and that pleasant feeling of seeing and liking himself in the mirror. Did it happen to you too?

When I saw a friend on Instagram doing her personal color analysis, I thought it was a sign! Maybe it was time to try the trend that only grows on social networks (and yields great boomerangs, let’s face it). When meeting with the image consultant Fernanda Fogaca, I discovered that I was not alone in this feeling: many people have felt this way during the pandemic. “When we stay in pajamas, our brain understands that it is time to relax, to lower the energy level. It’s ours sartorial cognition in action, our emotional states react to what we are wearing,” he explained.

A personal color analysis it is a stage of image consulting, which proposes to know your physical characteristics and temperament to choose your look better. “It’s like therapy from the outside in, we take care of ourselves and enter a virtuous cycle”, says Fernanda.

Facing the mirror, with your hair tied back, the process begins with the consultant placing a neutral gray fabric over your clothes. Without makeup and in the well-lit room, the idea is to notice how our eyes react to different tissues close to our face. The first test was with a shiny gold fabric and a shiny silver one. Fernanda asked me which one I preferred, which one I thought looks best on me, and at first I couldn’t answer! I felt at the ophthalmologist, how much do we need to adjust the glasses, you know? With her guidance, however, I began to identify which fabric highlighted the spots on the face and which seemed to make the skin more uniform. With the gold, I saw that the chin lines looked less defined. With the silver, they were more marked! Okay, then came the first answer: my skin is cold!

Maybe that’s why I’ve always preferred silver rings and necklaces, not gold ones. “We have an intuitive wisdom for these things,” said Fernanda. When we started testing things out, though, I got a fright! I think my intuition was a little wrong about the colors that favored me the most. Much of my wardrobe is made up of light tones, which I’ve always found more relaxing. Comparing a baby blue next to a royal blue close to the face, I understood that the dark tone suited me much better. The feeling looking in the mirror is of having put a filter on the image, so much does the skin change its appearance. Repeating the test with other colors, such as yellow and red, we identified my color palette: The winter! The other palettes are summer (in very light and soft tones), fall (of more earthy tones) and spring (of more vibrant tones).

We also tested what the neutral tones were: between white and beige, we went with white for my skin. I also discovered that black suits me much better than brown. More than creating new rigid rules about how I should dress, I saw the experience as fun. I remembered that choosing clothes to stay at home, or to go out, can be a joyful moment of expression.
