How to preserve wooden furniture outdoors

Elegant and very comfortable atmosphere. This is how those who have wooden objects and furniture describe their home. With a perfect finish, the pieces guarantee style and provide a certain warmth for those who visit the environment.

But you have to be careful with the furniture that is outside the house. Because they are exposed to the sun, rain and even insects that gnaw the wood, they can damage and in extreme cases, you run the risk of losing the entire piece.

Care you have to take

Protect your furniture with plastic covers or other materials that are easily found in stores and supermarkets. “I have a wooden table that is on the porch of my house. To protect from the rain, we cover it with a well-reinforced plastic that is waterproof”, comments the housewife, Sueli Aparecida.

Clean the furniture at least every 15 days. There are specific cleaning products for wood. In addition to offering an extra shine, they preserve and protect the furniture for longer. “With a flannel or a very soft cloth, I apply the product carefully on top and under each chair and table. They protect and even leave a nice and clean smell throughout the house”, says the housewife.

Do not let the furniture get wet. Like windows and doors, wooden furniture can dry out, damaging its longevity. “Under no circumstances should the furniture get wet. If water splashes, it is important to use a dry cloth so that the wood does not dry out or become ugly”, warns Sueli.

Apply wood oil carefully at least once a month, after all, it moisturizes and protects the material. “These oils for wood are not that expensive and can be found in supermarkets or specialized stores”, indicates the housewife.

Keep an eye on the furniture. As with windows and doors, make an annual assessment that the nails are securely fastened. “You have to know how to conserve whenever possible. Make sure the wood is intact, if the nails are not rusty or if the wood has splinters”, says Sueli.

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions so that your piece looks nice and lasts longer. “The furniture must come with care instructions. If the person strictly follows the suggested tips, the furniture will stay beautiful for much longer and in good condition”, recommends the housewife.

Avoid placing your furniture in grass, after all, they can contain insects that will easily harm your furniture. “The ideal is to place the furniture in environments without earth or mud and that have a very clean floor. In houses on farms or farms, attention must be redoubled so that no insect harms the material”, concludes the housewife.
