How to inject yourself without help

Nobody likes to talk about diseases and injections, however, it is something we should know in case we ever need it. Here’s what you need to know to inject yourself.

Choose the correct needle

Make sure you have the correct type of syringe and that it has more space than the amount you are going to administer. Also check that the instrument is sealed and in good condition. Never use a damaged needle!

Cleaning

You should clean your arm (or whatever body part you choose) with alcohol, but also the top of the bottle containing the substance. Let it dry for several minutes.

Fill the syringe

Insert the syringe into the middle of the vial, check for air, and turn it upside down to extract the medicine. Always take a little more than you need so you can return some to the bottle if the syringe fills with air.

In the arm

This injection is subcutaneous, so the needles are thinner and do not reach the muscle. People undergoing allergy treatment or diabetics use this technique.

Take the syringe and insert it at a 90 degree angle. Put it in as quickly as you can, press it, wait a couple of seconds and take it out quickly.

In the gluteus

The intramuscular injection hurts a little more and uses larger syringes, but you can do it in front of a mirror or simply by twisting your torso. Try sticking the syringe into the outer section of the buttock and follow the same procedure as on the arm.

Hopefully you never need it, but it’s better to know.
