How to help your child in case of bullying

In this post, Incrível.club suggests ways for you to help your child if he is a victim of this type of aggression.

1. Talk to your child

Communication with children is not always simple. Either because of the personality of the child or teenager, or because of the difficulty in approaching thorny subjects. And the truth is, dealing with bullying can be tricky.

One possibility is not to approach the subject directly🇧🇷 You can ask general questions: how is school going, how are friends and teachers. If the child shows resistance in talking about it, it is possible that he is being the victim of some type of discrimination.

What to do?

For starters, it’s essential that the child or adolescent know that you have the unconditional support of the family: words of consolation, demonstrations of love and interest on the part of the parents are fundamental points to reinforce your child’s trust in you🇧🇷

2. Pay attention to the signs

It is common for teenagers to go through periods of introspection, worry and even sadness. This is all part of growing up and moving from childhood to adulthood.

However, when these feelings persist for a long time or are so strong that your child is unable to lead a normal life, it is possible that he is experiencing problems at school. During adolescence, belonging to a group is very important.

Therefore, you need to be aware of the following symptoms:

1) Depression, which is not the same thing as sadness. It is a feeling of prostration, which often prevents the person from doing anything, even getting out of bed.

two) lack of sociability🇧🇷 If your child doesn’t have friends, doesn’t get upset with any classmates at school, doesn’t get together with others of the same age and always stays at home, be careful. These signs are not normal for a human being.

3) Lack of appetite🇧🇷 This usually hides other problems: extreme anxiety, excessive preoccupation with one’s own body.

4) Bruising or signs of physical pain🇧🇷 In such cases, the child or young person may be the victim of physical abuse.

These and other signs may indicate that your child is being bullied.

3. Talk to the teachers

The teacher is responsible for what happens in the classroom. There is a possibility that he does not know that a particular child is being bullied, as abuse can occur at break time or even outside of school.

In this case, it is important to inform the teacher about what has been happening, and to propose strategies to encourage inclusion and diversity in the class. Teachers must make it clear that all students are equal.

If they are aware of the occurrence of bullying and do not know how to act, parents and teachers should contact the school board.

4. Accept your child’s friendships

Just because a child is bullied doesn’t mean he doesn’t have friends.

If your child has friends, introduce yourself to them, try to talk (without forcing the issue, of course) and try to make everyone feel comfortable in your home🇧🇷 This way, you will achieve two very positive things:

1) That your child’s friends develop greater empathy to him.

two) May your child see that he can count on your support, and that you approve of their friendships. Bonding is key to the fight against bullying.

5. Spend more time with your child

We know that, in many cases, a teenager prefers to spend his time with friends or locked in his room. That’s part of growing up.

However, taking care not to let the young person feel pressured, try to spend more time with him🇧🇷 The ideal is to do activities with which he feels comfortable: you can go shopping, go to the movies, watch a series or simply sit down to talk.

The purpose of this is to strengthen the bond between parents and children., increasing confidence in themselves and in their family. That will make the whole family strongeremotionally speaking.

Finally, a reminder: each child and teenager has their own personality, but they are also influenced by their environment. And this environment has to do with family and home. In addition to personal traits, young people copy their parents’ attitudes, thoughts and actions. Therefore, the best way to start helping your child is by showing respect and respect for all people.
