How to care for calla lilies and keep them beautiful at home

One of the floors most common in our country is the gannet.

It is a plant with a beautiful and elegant white (although there are more colors) velvety flower.

Calla lilies, also known as calla lily, water lily, Ethiopian ring, cartridge or duck flower, are resistant plants that require little care.

However, they suddenly dry out, stop growing or stop producing flowers.

This plant is native to South Africa, but is very common in tropical climate areas around the world. It is even the national flower of Ethiopia.

Light

Calla lilies are considered semi-shade plants, so you should not place them in direct sun.

If there is a sun or in a certain part of the day it is covered by shadow, it is an ideal place to place it, otherwise it could burn its leaves.

Indoors, a lot of lighting is necessary, but not direct or all day, as well as good ventilation, otherwise they will become “overwhelmed.”

If the plant does not receive sun, it does not produce flowers.

Irrigation

Irrigation should be abundant, especially in spring and late summer, which is its flowering season.

As it is a semi-aquatic plant, it can be kept in a pot by keeping it partially submerged in water.

When the plant has flowers, it is important to water it abundantly but without flooding it.

Bloom

As we said, the plant blooms from early spring until late summer. It only stops flowering in winter, and for it to do so again, the withered flowers must be cut.

Fertilizer

With calla lilies we can add organic fertilizer every 15 days or before it blooms to strengthen them.

A rich soil or substrate is best for the gannet.

Remember to cut the flowers and leaves that are already withered to promote flowering.

Pests

They hardly affect them and it is rare to see snails, but they do attract ants and cause the development of a fungus called sooty mold. If you see that it is infected, pull the bulbs from the roots to prevent it from spreading.
