In 2005, Marcos Mion already experienced the conquests of fame and success. The diagnosis of autism, however, happened late. Mion only became aware of the condition when her son was around 8 years old. In 2014, he went public on the subject for the first time: “He is my greatest inspiration as a father, as a human being”, he confessed proudly. On his TV show, he even declared that he was an angel’s guardian. There began his journey as a social activist.

The fight for the autistic cause

The TV veteran soon became an important voice in the fight for the rights of people with autism. And he defends himself against criticism: “In the case of my son, it is my place of speech. He doesn’t have the developed cognitive skills to claim his rights, to fight for what he believes in. So I have to speak for him. I have to use my more than 20 years of career to fight for him and for the more than 2 million people with autism that exist in Brazil”, vented the presenter in an interview with Conversa com Bial.

The couple had two other heirs: Donatella, the middle sister, and Stefano, the youngest of the family. Mion, then, had to explain to the youngest children about the condition of the firstborn. That’s when the idea of ​​The Blue Toothbrush came up, a children’s book written by the presenter in homage to Romeo. According to the doting father himself, the work teaches, in a language accessible to children, what autism is. In his own words, “I have entertainment and art as a mission, but I have a purpose that God gave me as a gift. He gave me that purpose in the form of the greatest love of my life.
