A Prince in New York is a 1980s cult film whose plot tells the story of the heir to the throne of the fictional country of Zamunda. He travels to the iconic American city in search of true love and—why not—a little adventure. The film has all the spices of a good comedy to watch as a family, even though it was filmed 33 years ago. For those who got a taste of wanting more, it is already possible to see the sequel released now, in 2021.

It was the first film in which Eddie Murphy played four different characters: Akeem, the prince of Zamunda; the barber Clarence; Saul, a barber shop customer; and the leader of a soul band. Since then, the actor has made it his trademark, so to speak.

the restaurant of fast food that appears in the movie was actually a Wendy’s. Turns out the place was closed for renovations, but the company gave its consent to be used as a movie set. It’s no coincidence that the McDowell’s sign is very reminiscent of McDonald’s; the brand also gave its permission for the production to use the name and logo. The place was recreated in real life, it is called Fat Sal’s Deli and is located in Hollywood, United States.

At one point in the film, Akeem, Lisa and two other characters go to a basketball game. This game was real and took place in December 1987 at Madison Square Garden.

When they introduce Akeem to his future wife, they do so in grand style, with a traditional dance. The inspiration for this choreography was taken from another very famous one that appears in the music video “Thriller”, by Michael Jackson (1983).

In one scene in the movie, Prince Akeem gives money to some homeless people. The actors who played these characters are the same actors who brought the Duke brothers to life in the movie. exchanging the ballsfrom 1983. Obviously also starring Eddie Murphy.
