Gray hair can be reversible and here’s what you can do to restore your hair to its original color.

There are some folk stories about people whose hair turned white overnight. For example, an English barrister, Sir Thomas More, allegedly turned completely gray the night before his execution. Even though scientists aren’t very interested in backing up this story, there are many things about gray hair that we still don’t know.

We, from awesome.clubwe’ve learned a lot about the research that’s been done to figure out how to reverse graying hair, and we’d like to share that information with you.

1. Why some people go gray before others

Like skin color, the chemical that determines hair color is called melanin. Over time, the hair’s pigment cells die, causing the strands to turn gray. According to the study, this process usually begins in their 30s in white people. For Asians, this characteristic usually happens towards their late 30s, while Africans tend to start aging in their mid-40s.

However, this process may start sooner or later for you — a lot depends on your genes, particularly IRF4, which regulates melanin production as well as its storage.

2. The most recent discoveries of scientists

A recent study finally proved what most of us intuitively knew: stress causes hair to gray prematurely. Scientists measured levels of protein in the hair of volunteers and found that psychological stress had an influence on mitochondria (they produce energy in cells). Some other factors have similar effects, such as being a vegetarian, being deficient in vitamin B12, and suffering from other health problems (such as vitiligo).

3. The good news is that gray hair can return to its original color.

In conjunction with the association between gaining gray hair and psychological stress, the aforementioned study found that people can regain their original hair color if they are less stressed. So, one of the participants was able to partially regain his hair color simply by going on vacation. However, there are some limitations to this method — it won’t work on people whose hair has been gray for years.

4. Some homemade alternatives for you to try

If you want to preserve your hair color without dyeing it, it is advisable to make sure that your body gets the vitamins (in addition to B12, vitamins E, D and A are the most important) and minerals (zinc, iron, etc.) sufficient and necessary. Another tip is to treat your hair well, avoiding exposing it to the sun, using strong shampoos, hair dryers and flat irons, among other things that damage the hair.

Here are some home remedies:

1. Apply coconut oil to roots and lengths of hair the night before washing.

2. Consume a mixture of a teaspoon of fresh ginger and a tablespoon of honey every day.

3. Drink approximately 240 ml of carrot juice daily.

4. Mix the same amount of lemon juice with amla juice and almond oil. Use this mixture to apply to your scalp and hair twice a day for three months.

5. Going gray is actually not that bad

We all know that it’s healthy to accept our body with all its imperfections, so we must also learn to accept gray hair for what it represents – it’s a sign of maturity and wisdom and can still be stylish. Here are some beautiful gray celebrities for everyone to get inspired by.
