Future doctor has chronic illness and asks for help to pay for college

Letícia Toldi is a young university student from Santos (on the coast of São Paulo), who ran a campaign on social networks to be able to pay the debts of the last year of medical school and a hospital bill for a recently discovered chronic disease.

Letícia always dreamed of becoming a doctor and, after two years of a pre-university course, she got a place at the Faculty of Medicine in Santos in 2014. She always had excellent grades, as shown in her report cards.

Only, in the same year she spent in college, the young woman began to feel very dizzy, short of breath and tired. After many tests, she was diagnosed with dysautonomia, a chronic disease of the nervous system with no cure. Letícia went through several hospitalizations and ended up accumulating a huge debt at the hospital with exams, medication and the treatment that controls and stabilizes the symptoms of the problem.

With two huge bills to pay, the hospital (about 20,000 monthly) and the college (since Medicine courses are among the most expensive), the debts ended up piling up, reaching 170,000 reais.

With only one year to finish the medical course, the family ended up facing a difficult situation: the Faculty of Medicine simply would not accept that she enroll in the fifth year (the last) if she did not settle the accounts, demanding full payment to the View.

After a long time looking for a way out to solve this problem, the girl decided to act, opened an account on a virtual crowdfunding website with a raffle of gifts, according to the amount donated, so that she could get funds to pay for college and hospital debt. She has already managed the equivalent of about 31% of the total amount of the debt.

Letícia does not give up and believes that, in the same way she was treated and received attention, she will be able, one day, to take care of other people and help them to fulfill their dreams. She is yet another example that, with willpower, it is possible to overcome barriers.
