First harassment: Valentina case opens discussion on pedophilia and sexual harassment

The debut of the MasterChef Júnior program, which brings together children aged 9 to 13 cooking “like grown-ups”, was not marked by the dishes made by the participants. The reality show, which always has a lot of repercussions on the internet, this time gained immense repercussions due to comments with a sexual content directed at one of the participants, Valentina, 12 years old.

After being exposed on the network by journalist Carol Patrocínio, in the article “When a 12-year-old girl on MasterChef Júnior awakens the desire of adult men, we need to talk about rape culture”, the tweets were deleted. But they cannot and should not be ignored.

It is prohibited by law to have sex with children. Point. It is in the penal code, it is a crime to have sexual intercourse or commit a libidinous act with a child or adolescent under 14 years of age. Libidinous act is every act of satisfaction of someone’s sexual desire or appetite. And, yes, some of the messages published on Twitter can be considered criminal.

Motivated by the discussion about the comments about Valentina, women began to tell on Twitter about the first times they were harassed. And it is common to find stories of women who suffered their first harassment at 7, 8, 9 years old. But the fact that it is common does not and cannot make it normal.
