Find out why we shouldn’t sleep in warm pajamas, not even in winter

About 40% of people tend to wear pajamas to bed, and really few things are cozier than warm pajamas on a cold night. However, what we wear to bed can actually affect the quality of our sleep, our appearance and even our health. If your fuzzy pajamas make you hot at night, maybe that’s why you’re having trouble staying asleep and you’re waking up in the morning feeling tired.

We, from awesome.club, we also love wearing nice pajamas and running under the covers when the temperature drops. Therefore, we decided to research the reasons why warm pajamas may not be the best option for bedtime. Follow!

1. It can affect sleep quality

Sleeping in very warm pajamas can result in restless nights, as our body tries to maintain the ideal temperature overnight. The best fabric for bedtime is cotton, as the material allows the skin to breathe, helping to feel comfortable. Another great alternative to sleepwear is linen, a breathable and absorbent fabric. The problem is that it tends not to be as soft as cotton.

2. It can cause heat rash

When we sweat while sleeping, we may suffer from a specific type of rash known as heat rash. The combination of heat and the friction of your sweat-soaked pajamas can clog your pores, leading to even more skin irritation. Choosing pajamas made from bamboo fabric has the potential to prevent heat rash, as the fabric has useful properties against microbes. It’s even softer and more absorbent than cotton, and maybe it’s what you need to sleep well.

3. It can trigger infections

Perspiring at night can greatly increase your chances of developing a skin infection. Bacteria thrive best in dark, damp environments, and when we’re covered in layers of warm clothing and blankets, we may actually be building a breeding ground for harmful microorganisms.

4. Your reproductive life may be affected

Men who don’t wear pants to sleep may have improved sperm quality, says a study. When going to bed in tight underwear or warm pajamas, there is a good chance that the genital area will sweat profusely. And this can also affect female fertility, as excess sweat brings together conditions to cause inflammation and infections.

5. Prevents the body from naturally regulating its temperature

When we feel too hot in bed, our organism cannot reduce body temperature, preventing us from having a good night’s sleep. Maintaining a lower temperature at night helps the body recover more efficiently and also serves to speed up the metabolism. If you’re looking for an alternative to cotton pajamas, silk might be a good choice. The fabric works as a natural thermal regulator, keeping the body warm on cold winter nights thanks to the heat that is conserved between the silk threads and creating an insulating effect.

For you, what is the ideal type of clothing to sleep in? Do you prefer light or heavier fabric pajamas? Or are you one of those who prefer to sleep without any clothes on? Comment!
