Feminist lambe-lambes spread poetry and protest in the streets

The idea is super simple and is gaining more and more fans! Through small posters, the so-called lambe-lambes, feminist groups are giving their message and coloring the streets of São Paulo🇧🇷 Writer and teacher Ryane Leão, 27, has been glued to lambes for more than 4 years and since January she has given workshops with architecture student Lela Brandão, 22. and “Where jazz my heart” and Lela the “Frida Feminist”) and started to go out together to spread their messages throughout the city of São Paulo.

From this partnership came the desire to encourage other women to do the same. The workshops started in January and the idea is that they will happen once a month from now on. “We start with a conversation about feminism and street art, opening up to a relaxed chat, so that everyone can talk and listen. The feeling of belonging and sisterhood is indescribable. Afterwards, enriched by this debate, we produce the posters and go out to put them up on the street”, says Lela.

From this exchange, other projects were born, such as “Poesia Móvel”, by editor Carol Mondin, 36. “It took a while, but I understood that poetry is also a form of resistance and fight. And that’s how I know how to fight. I want to touch anyone who takes a picture, with their cell phone or with their retina, what I have to say”, she says.

Another project that emerged through Ryane and Lela’s workshops is “Encontrarte”, by friends Aline Fidalgo, 35, and Mari Vieira, 40. The two met through the #MeuAmigoSecreto campaign, as they discovered something that united them: both had related to the same guy, who behaved abusively. “Our meeting was painful, but simultaneously supportive. Aline and I strengthened ties and with that came the idea of doing something. We realized that our story was common, many women had similar experiences. My desire was to do something that went beyond the personal, that wasn’t revenge, that reflected a collective struggle, that alerted other women, because we know that abusers are everywhere”, says Mari.

The girls say that they have received several positive responses from women who come across the licks and find inspiration. “I already received a message from a woman saying that she was thinking about suicide and read my things and managed to see something beyond. Sometimes we are not aware of the proportion of our work, but what moves me are these women who meet and identify with what I write”, comments Ryane.

Did you want to do it too? So get to work, because the process is very simple! 🇧🇷Everyone has something to talk about: grab a piece of paper and a pen, write and stick around. Once you start, you can’t stop,” encourages Lela. Some girls print their licks, others do everything by hand, just be careful that the ink used does not stain in contact with liquids. In the workshops, women learn to make homemade glue, using only water and flour, but you can also use white glue diluted in water. The ideal is to apply the glue directly to the surface (wall, siding, wall, etc.), fix the sheet and then apply more glue over it.

Faced with the wave of feminist manifestos and the recent widespread indignation against rape culture, the girls are unanimous in saying that they see sorority as something increasingly latent. “It is urgent to overthrow the silent practices of machismo and review our behavior criteria ‘until everyone is free!’. It is time not to be silent, there is strength and energy in the streets for this”, believes Aline. For Ryane, we live in a time when pain is finally turning into strength and togetherness. “When one gets hurt, we all get hurt. Courage has been screaming in the chest of mines, no one accepts the setback anymore and as one of mine says ‘no one else is able to shut us up’”.
