Evangelical fashion: ideas of looks to go to services

Evangelical churches, in general, follow their own pattern and custom of dress for religious celebration, both for men and women.

While they go in a suit or dress pants and a shirt, women vary between long skirts and dresses. But it’s not like that at all. According to fashion consultant Blenda Venceslau, each church has its own doctrine and customs of dress. Therefore, the habits vary from church to church, regarding the way of dressing.

What can and what can’t?

Also according to the consultant, what is “common for all evangelicals is the concern with the length of shorts, dresses and skirts, necklines, slits, tight clothes, which mark or show a lot of the body and transparencies.”

“Clothes with the characteristics mentioned above should be avoided, but what can and cannot depend on each doctrine and church and even on the conscience of women. Rules and doctrines exist, but each one ends up complying according to what it believes to be right, according to its own conscience” clarifies consultant Blenda.

8 outfit suggestions for evangelicals

Blenda suggests the use of midi length in looks: “High in the fashion world, midi length is elegant and suits the evangelical woman very well (despite being hated by many).”

Skirts in the flared model with a marked waist and pencil or straight skirts are also good options, according to the consultant. In addition to skirts, wider straight-cut pants can also be used in churches where the custom is more liberal in terms of the use of these pieces.

To complete the look, the consultant recommends basic t-shirts and shirts, with prints ranging from the most delicate, such as polka dots, to animal prints. Check out some looks assembled with the suggestions of the consultant Blenda Venceslau:

1. Lady like look with flared skirt

Modern and well-behaved look. This look really appeals to romantic women with Lady Like Style. The suggestion is a midi-length flared skirt with a marked waist with a basic printed t-shirt and blazer. On her feet, a heavy sandal (galdiadora type). Clutch bag or envelope.

2. Look with a pencil skirt

According to the consultant, this look really appeals to the sexiest women. Combine a knee-length pencil skirt with a silk shirt, with sheer, animal print or bright colors like red. If you use transparency, the consultant suggests putting a tank top underneath to not leave the lingerie on display.

3. Classic look with straight skirt

Bet on a light-colored straight skirt and combine it with a polka-dot shirt or other small print. On the feet, pumps give class and sophistication to the look. This combination is suitable for classic and traditional women.

4. Classic look with pants

For churchgoers who allow the use of pants, it is suggested to opt for models that do not mark much and are wider. Check out an example of a look with straight-cut pants, t-shirt and sandals:

5. Modern look with pants

For those who want to dare more in the look and make it more fashionable, colored boyfriend pants are great options. To match the blouse or shirt without mistake, choose a print that contains the color of the pants, as in the example. Combine it with sneakers or flats if you prefer not to wear heels.

6. Look with a dress

When you want to innovate the looks and bet on the delicacy and femininity of the dresses, invest in models that will make you feel at ease within the church environment. On the feet, sandals, pumps, flats and heels can be used as you wish. It is worth remembering that shoes that are more closed and fasten at the ankle give the impression of a shorter silhouette and thicker legs. On the other hand, pumps and shoes that leave the foot more exposed help to refine the silhouette, especially those with a thin toe.

7. Mid-season look

When autumn arrives, or even on the cooler days of summer and spring, it’s worth dressing up a little more, but without losing style. Bet on dresses with denim or synthetic leather jackets and protect yourself from the winds of this season. On the feet, it is worth wearing an ankle boot, a feminine boot or a high boot.

8. Winter look

In winter and on colder days, the suggestion is to invest in pants and dresses and skirts with thicker socks to keep warm. Invest in warm, high-top boots and complete the look with an overcoat coat. The look is chic and cozy.

Testimonials: what do evangelicals wear?

Check out the testimonies of the evangelicals interviewed about the dress and customs of the churches they attend:

Carol Calegari (Foursquare Church): There is no doctrine about clothing, but I try to use common sense when dressing.

Kellin Cris Vacari Conchon (Evangelical Community): In my church there is no custom, as in some. Of course, we understand that the church is the house of the Lord, so we must respect it and go with proper clothes, that is, not too short, transparent, etc. I usually put on dress pants and a shirt or jeans and a nice t-shirt or, if it’s hot, a knee-length dress.

Luciana Maranho Didier (First IPI – Independent Presbyterian Church): I believe in discernment and wisdom, that is, common sense. Everything that would be too much: too short, too tight, too low-cut, too bold (to be avoided).

Michely Mileski Zuliani (House of the Potter): There is no rule for dress, but we are oriented about the dress of the cult, because as the halfway house is male and the students (as the inmates are called) attend the cult together with the members we must be careful not to draw their attention too much (so they don’t lose focus, which should be on the service and not on the girls). We do not wear low-cut clothes, transparencies and very short clothes (dresses, skirts, knee-length shorts) for worship. But outside the church there is no problem wearing these clothes. However, it is a matter of common sense and also of conscience about biblical purposes. I don’t wear very short shorts and skirts, very deep necklines, those see-through blouses I only wear with tank tops underneath. Not because religion forbids me, but because I don’t feel comfortable with “provocative” clothes, I’ve never liked to show my body too much.

Ariella Amaral (Church of the Nazarene): The customs of dress in the church are guided by common sense. There are no prohibitions, but I don’t wear clothes that are too short, see-through, tight or low-cut. Usually the clothes I wear outside of church I also wear inside, except for a shorter summer short. It has happened that the pastor privately drew attention to some teenagers who were dressing very inappropriately/provocatively within the church. I feel good about what I wear inside and outside of it, because it reflects my personality and not my body.
