Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world

“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world” or “education is the key to open the golden door of freedom” are phrases by Nelson Mandela and George Washington Carver, which perfectly reflect the transformative importance of the acquisition of knowledge.

But Mandela or Washington Carver are not the only ones who have postulated the importance of education. Thinkers, presidents, philosophers and brilliant minds such as Einstein, Kennedy or Aristotle, throughout the history of humanity, also speak of the importance of opening the mind to knowledge to be freer.

However, the true power of education does not lie in simply acquiring knowledge mechanically. Its strength establishes the ability to free the mindthe people and even to access happiness.

Education transforms life

Establishing the true power of open-mindedness to new experiences capable of changing the world is one of the objectives of UNESCO’s annual report called Education transforms life.

This report is published annually and establishes the progress of children’s schooling throughout the world. At the moment, the data is devastating, since Millions of children around the world do not receive any type of training throughout their lives.

However, the purpose pursued by UNESCO with this work is quite ambitious. They consider it the millennium goal to ensure that all children in the world receive at least universal primary education.being able to complete at least one complete teaching cycle.

Why education

Why do we echo the UNESCO report? This dossier is not only important to know the state of early childhood education worldwide, it also does important work reflecting the aspects that training must contain so that it is adaptable to reality and serves the child:

According to the report, data is reflected such as that those mothers who did not receive any type of training and knowledge have a higher risk of death as a consequence of childbirth. Those countries with greater training among their population have reduced the number of infant deaths thanks to prevention , above all.Mothers with a higher level of education achieve a higher survival rate for their children.Children’s nutrition improves thanks to the greater training of mothers.The most educated and trained societies have less disparate salaries between men and women.The educational level of mothers reflects the possibilities of getting married at a more or less early age.Societies with a higher level of education are more tolerant.An equal education shows that national prosperity is higher and faster. Concern for the environment is also higher in societies with a higher level of education.

Why is it so important to educate?

As we can see in the UNESCO report, Educating is a basic task that directly results in the well-being of people.. Societies and their ability to acquire high standards of living are directly related to the acquisition of knowledge and openness of mind to new technologies, history, philosophy, mathematics and other universal and necessary subjects.

But Education cannot stop at the simple acquisition of technical knowledge. Furthermore, it must be accompanied by the ability to understand. It must involve empathy, solidarity, generosity, kindness, love, freedom, happiness, etc.

Reality has shown that more supportive and egalitarian countries such as Sweden, Finland, Iceland and even Bhutan have much higher standards of living and quality of life for their inhabitants than other poorly educated ones.

We must be aware that in this ship called planet Earth we are all on board. Making the world a more educated, educated, understanding and fair society is the task of each of us. Hence the capital importance of an egalitarian and kind education that invites us to think, to understand, to make critical judgments and to be more empathetic and understanding.
