Sparkling water may seem like a healthier option when compared to the beverage options on the market like soft drinks and juices. But it’s always recommended to check the product label to check if they don’t have sweeteners, sodium or other additives. Carbonated soft drinks, for example, contain low pH and therefore can erode tooth enamel. On the other hand, industrial carbonated waters (the ones with flavors, you know?) are prepared with citric acid and can damage enamel. Club soda, on the other hand, which is not equal to sparkling water, receives substances such as sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, sodium phosphate and sodium citrate to cut the acidity of the water. The amount of sodium is small and varies between brands, but it can compromise your health if you consume it frequently. So beware! Excess sodium can increase blood pressure and cause bloating.
