Do you know the power of lemon? Conceição Trucom, chemist scientist explains –

The joker fruit in the kitchen, which works as a seasoning to an ingredient for sweets, has the perfect taste to never be missing from anyone’s shopping list. It was by analyzing the benefits of lemon that Conceição Trucomchemist, scientist and believer in a healthy, natural lifestyle wrote “The Healing Power of Lemon”in 2004 and since then it has sold more than half a million copies in Brazil, showing the infinite benefits that this sour and versatile fruit can bring.

Now, in a new edition released by the Academia label, the work uses accessible and objective language to talk about the properties of lemon from a naturalistic, philosophical and scientific point of view.

The 249-page book is divided into ten chapters and covers topics such as the origin of the fruit and its types, the correct way to consume them, medical properties, therapies with lemon and recipes for different purposes. In addition to explaining to the reader about the human body and the risks of self-medication and the consumption of bicarbonates.

In conversation with Good shapeConceição talked about the book process, her relationship with lemon before discovering its benefits and her lifestyle.

How long did it take for you to chemically decode the lemon’s properties?

Loving the taste of citrus fruits is ancient history. I don’t have pictures, but I was one of those kids who sucked on oranges and lemons without making a face, hehe! I have a degree in chemistry, training that makes it easier for me to decode many things, and little by little I have been directing part of these discoveries to food. But it’s something kind of eternal, which we decode as we access new layers. But let’s say that as a website content creator, writer and speaker, activities that began in 1998, lemon was the first to charm me and take me to highlights wherever I went. I wrote the first brochures about it in 2000, which became primers, which I expanded, until it became a book in 2003. With more than half a million copies sold, it became a best seller. However, I keep studying, unraveling its alchemical mysteries and new recipes are overflowing…

What was your relationship with lemon before knowledge of its properties?

Let’s say that since I was a child I have always been very frugal: I love fruits and necessarily those with an acidic taste. From lemons and currants, to the most acidic varieties of apples, mangoes and bananas.I was born struggling to fit into the bread and butter and coffee, beans and rice and meat model. Then, when my parents didn’t know what else to do, they ran to the fruits that were my objects of desire: grapes, mangoes, cajás…And when the fruit wasn’t the most acidic, like avocados and papayas, I squeezed lemon to be attracted and satiated!

Do you believe that nature provides everything we need to be healthy? How was your experience of getting in touch with this more natural universe?

From the answers above my natural instincts were very much touched upon. Yes, every such child is born or should be born. But it needs to have learning spaces and references. In this case I had many from my grandfather and parents. With difficulties, of course… Because our educators seek to do the best for society, but they need to study and listen to their children, students and patients. Difficult and easy question to answer. Difficult because our instincts of connection with nature were gradually being turned off by urban centers, ultra-processed, additive, masked, mega-sugared or salty foods. Packed, etc.Easy because all it takes is a wish (own and familiar) to reactivate these connections. In my books, texts and lectures I suggest (and pray) that EVERYONE try to get to know the green belt of their cities. Family farming producers. Get to know and practice LOCAVORISM, which are ‘short-distance’ foods, educating and educating yourself regarding the practice of a lifestyle that nourishes and makes EVERYONE healthy: human beings, animals, fauna and flora, groundwater, air and planet.

What changes (or new information) can the reader expect from this re-release?

This new edition arrived with many AXÉS. First plastically speaking, with cover and salivating images, like the lemon in the first instance instigates us: digesting is necessary! But it has been a few years since the last edition, during which I continued studying, writing and lecturing about lemons and the universe of flavors and knowledge involved with them.Many recipes that were born and overflowed in this edition, which I classify as absolutely MATURE, with Planeta – Selo Academia.

How much does “The Healing Power of Lemon” mean to you?

Bah! Fulfillment as a chemist and as an alchemist, a transformation greatly provided by this ‘Healing Power’, which takes us away from the literal and places us in the universe of Metaphysics, PhytoEnergetics, EcoMedicine and Sautogenesis (genesis of health). Much gratitude. One final suggestion? Try one day to spend about 30 minutes under a lemon tree. If you can, take a nap!
