Have you ever thought about how many types of love there are? A John Paul Young song says that “love is in the air,” and this is 100% true. Even if we don’t have a partner, we realize that this feeling hides, or rather, shows itself, in different places and people.

And that is why love is present in every corner and compositionfrom music to poetry, through films, works of art and sculptures.

If we asked each person what love is, we would surely have millions of different definitions. Love is a concept that can be used in various contexts or relationships.. And furthermore, it is a phenomenon studied for many years… but it has not yet been fully understood.

Different types of love

It seems that there is no one way to feel love, it all depends on the people involved. Research in Canada indicated that there are 93 different types of love. Yes, as you read, 93! Do they seem like a lot to you? What happens is that people don’t realize that love is everywhere and not just in those around us.

The prototype of love that most of us have in mind is maternal love

Now, what do these types of love have in common? And how are they different? According to the study, it all has to do with how we perceive it. That is, what we feel when we see a person or think about them.

Besides, Within what is called “love” we can encompass other feelings, such as affection, affection, attraction, care, respect, joy and protection. Therefore, the human race does not have the capacity (yet) to offer a single definition of love.

Everything will depend on our experiences and the emotions we feel in each particular situation. There is no delimitation, whether logical or not, of the word “love”. If what we feel is so complex, imagine how complicated it is to explain it! And since it involves so many feelings, everything becomes even more difficult, fortunately.

The love triangle

Each vertex of this triangle represents the most genuine feelings a person can have.. Maybe not at the same time, but at different stages of life. And this theory has nothing to do with love triangles or third parties.

Many say that this hypothesis is only based on the love of a couple, but can be used for all relationships that we have throughout our time on Earth.

The meaning of each vertex

In order to understand this theory, it is good that we first imagine a triangle. Or we can also draw it on paper. At the tip of the triangle we find “affection”which appears when there is intimacy (and does not refer to sex).

At the right vertex, there is “empty love”, which occurs when there is only commitment. The sum of these two (affection and empty love) results in “sociable love”, a mixture of intimacy and commitment.

At the left vertex of the triangle we find the “whim”, which only takes passion into account. If we add it with the tip of the triangle (the “affection”), the result is “romantic love” (intimacy plus passion) and if the sum is with the right vertex (“empty love”), we will get the “love fatuous” (passion and commitment).

This consummate love would be the “ideal love.”the one that is talked about so much and the one that we all aspire to feel at least once in our lives.
