For many, lack of organization is a defect. Children have always been taught that order and cleanliness are two important factors for people’s development. But if you’re a mess, you can rest assured. Science believes that this can be healthy.
O awesome.club shares a study on the topic, so you don’t have to be ashamed of being a disorganized person.
order versus disorder
Research published in the journal Psychological Science showed that people who have organized work desks tend to perform their tasks better, to be cleaner, more generous and to have a balanced diet. But the same research showed that disorganized people also get some advantages. The analysis to obtain the results was divided into 3 activities, with the participation of 188 people.
The search
Participants answered a series of questionnaires in an office. Some did so at a clean and tidy work desk while others answered questions at a table where papers and various office objects were strewn about. After completing the requested task, they had the opportunity to donate the amount they wanted to a charity and, later, they were invited to choose between a chocolate or an apple. Organized people donated more money and chose to eat the fruit; In the second experiment, participants were asked to come up with new ways to use a ping pong ball. Both groups had the same amount of ideas; however, disorganized people presented more interesting and creative proposals; In the third experiment, the participants had to choose between a new product and a product already known in the market. Organized people chose not to take the risk and stayed with what they already knew, while disorganized people acted out of curiosity, choosing the new and unknown.
The importance of the surroundings
We can all be exposed to different environments at home and in the office, but keeping the space tidy or, conversely, disorganized, greatly influences behavior. The ordered places led the participants to act in a traditional way; in cluttered environments, people tended to break with the classic and expand their creativity.
The benefits of clutter
By not worrying about having everything tidy, your stress level is reduced and this helps your body maintain a blood pressure balance, lowering the risk of your heart malfunctioning; The tension generated by the search for organization can cause stomach problems. But, if order is not your priority, you can avoid problems like constipation; Clutter can prevent the appearance of wrinkles and slow down the aging process due to its relaxed state in the face of clutter; Your creativity can increase, because being in a disorganized environment can make you get inspired and think about innovative things, finding clearer solutions; If you are disorganized, you tend to invest more time in things that really interest you, instead of worrying about organizing everything; You can be more adventurous and spontaneous, adapting to the circumstances presented to you.
