Deputy vents: “They said that if I’m raped I can’t complain”

Known as PaulinhaState Representative Ana Paula da Silva (PDT), from Santa Catarina, became known all over Brazil because of the clothes she wore when taking office in the Legislative Assembly, in Florianópolis, this week.

He wore a low-cut red jumpsuit and has been heavily attacked on social media for it. Many people point out that she did not comply with the rules of parliamentary decorum, which is not true, according to lawyers.

“Angry and conservative manifestations aside, the deputy’s conduct does not constitute a breach of parliamentary decorum”, said a professional interviewed by Estadão.

Former mayor of Bombinhas, a city on the coast of Santa Catarina, Paulinha was awarded during her tenure in the municipality and received 51,739 votes to serve as state representative. In addition to receiving all kinds of offensive comments, she was also defended on social media.

According to the criminal lawyer John Paul Martinelli, “Comments can be insulting, if the offender uses name-calling, defamation, if he attributes a fact that affects the victim’s reputation with third parties”. The big problem is the difficulty in identifying and individualizing each aggressor.

Regardless, the deputy says she will file a lawsuit and guarantees that she is strengthened in the face of attacks. “TI have my empowered side and that makes me get up every day and say: this is me and I fight to break paradigms and patterns that do not match what I think and think many women who see themselves represented by me”.
