Crossfit Games: meet the fittest woman in the world –

The Crossfit Games 2017, the Olympic sport, which took place in Madison, Wisconsin, in the USA, came to an end this Sunday (6) and awarded the Australian Tia-Clair Tommey as the best fit woman in the world. Also on the podium were her compatriot Kara Webb (just two points behind!) and Icelandic Annie Thorisdottir (who won in 2011 and 2012). Among the men, the first place went again to the American Mat Fraser (record holder in points), followed by the Canadian Brent Fikowski and the Australian Ricky Garard.

There were four days of competition with surprise events (yes, the athletes don’t know what they’re going to face!), in which Tia-Claire led three of them. She and the other elite participants – 40 men and 40 women selected from around the world – faced challenges such as swimming, cycling, weightlifting, hurdling, rope climbing and deadlifting with a 56 kg kettlebell. Discover, below, three curiosities about the champion Tia-Clair.

1. She started out in the hall

when she wasn’t playing netball, swimming in the river or riding motorbikes

Tia-Clair was born in Brisbane, Australia, where she swam in the river, rode motorcycles and played netball. Her career as an athlete began in running (her father stood at the finish line yelling at her to go faster). Only in 2013, when she found out about crossfit, did she start weightlifting. Today, at the age of 24, the Australian weighs 58 kg, distributed over 1.58 m.

2. He was runner-up in the last two editions

In 2015, Tia-Clair was considered a big surprise on the podium of the games. In addition to competing for the first time in the Crossfit Games, the Australian did not stand out so much in the competitions – only, as the participants add up the points over the four days, she managed to stay at the top of the table thanks to her regularity. Just like in 2015, last year, Tia-Clair won second place behind Icelandic Katrin Tanja Daviosdottir, who was fifth in the 2017 edition.

3. Participated in the Rio Olympics in 2016

Despite being criticized for not dedicating herself exclusively to the sport, Tia-Clair came to Rio de Janeiro to compete in weightlifting. She placed 14th after carrying 82 kg in the snatch (when you lift the barbell overhead with your knees bent) and 107 kg in the clean and jerk (when you rest the barbell on your shoulders before lifting it). “Ten times better. Like, a hundred times better”, said the Australian when comparing the CrossfitGames with the Olympics.
