Cosmetic acne guide –

Have you ever used a product and some time later, had allergic reactions or pimples? If the answer was yes and you don’t understand why, know that this reaction has a name: cosmetic acne, also known as an inflammatory process of the skin. According to the dermatologist Geisa Costafrom the Art Beauty Center – Center for Dermatology, Health and Wellness, this skin problem can affect all skin types, especially the most oily and prone to acne.

After all, what cosmetics cause this type of acne?

Cosmetic acne arises from the use of certain skincare products and even makeup, which are not indicated for the type of skin. They are: some types of bases, primers, moisturizers and solar filters, for example. The Doctor. Newton Morais, from Clínica Mais, explains: “this type of acne appears when the active present in the product obstructs the pores. This skin inflammation can happen at any age and is treated with anti-acne products, or in some cases, with specific medications for dermatitis”.

In addition, the two doctors comment that it is rarer for a person with dry skin to suffer from cosmetic acne. For those with acneic or oily skin, they recommend that patients use only non-comedogenic, oil-free and dry-touch products, as they have a lighter texture and/or less oily ingredients, helping to prevent pore clogging. Therefore, skincare products need to be lighter, such as gels, lotions and serums.

What to do in case of cosmetic acne?

This type of acne appears only in the places where the cosmetic was applied and can come in the form of a pimple, but also as an open comedone, which is the famous blackhead, and even a closed comedone, which is the whitehead. “Stop using the product that caused this cosmetic acne, avoid touching your face, and most importantly, don’t squeeze the comedone. By touching the skin to try to remove this comedone, you can aggravate the situation and further inflame the skin, which is already very sensitive”, reinforces Costa. Look for a professional to start treatment with products that will reduce inflammation.

“In addition to the cosmetics indicated for your skin type and with a certain concentration of actives, also pay attention to your makeup and even the cleaning of your brushes. These tools accumulate product residues and even bacteria, which can also cause inflammation in the skin”, adds Dr. Morals. Therefore, keep your brushes clean, either with a specific cleaner for the material, or washing with water and neutral shampoo/liquid soap.

Another important point in the treatment of skin with cosmetic acne (and of course, for all skin types), is to maintain a daily care routine, always remembering to clean the skin, remove makeup and impurities with the makeup remover and use only specific products for your skin type. “Cosmetic acne is temporary and by discontinuing the products that caused the condition, the problem goes away. However, maintaining a skin care routine is essential to maintain long-term health”, concludes Dr Costa.
