Tips and care informed by a body piercer
Nothing better than a trained professional to give you security when deciding to get a conch piercing, right? Renata Menoli spoke with us, clarified the most frequent doubts, gave care tips and precious information. Don’t miss out!
- Which jewelry is suitable for drilling the conch? According to the professional, the conch is one of the most beloved perforations at the moment, but the problem is that the vast majority already want to drill directly with the zirconia ring. “For better healing, it is not suitable. The most suitable is the famous labret, a straight piece of jewelry without a ball in the back so as not to disturb. Straight jewelry provides uniform pressure, has adequate thickness and is more stable, ensuring better safety at the time of healing”.
- How is a conch piercing done? Each body piercer has its method, but our interviewee seeks to analyze the anatomy of the ear first. In this way, it is possible to check, with the aid of a flashlight pen, if there is any blood vessel, so as not to perforate in that place. Then, Renata performs the asepsis with chlorhexidine and, finally, makes the labeling with gentian violet. After all this, the ideal place is pierced very quickly with an American catheter or needle and the correct jewelry is already passed.
- How long does it take for a conch piercing to heal? It depends on the material and the immune system of each person. Surgical steel takes around 5 to 6 months, titanium takes 3 to 4 months.
- What to do when the conch piercing gets swollen? Renata says that it is normal to be swollen in the first few days and indicates that the best solution for swelling would be a brine compress or cold saline solution: “the cold compress reduces blood flow, which helps to reduce swelling”.
- How to care for conch piercing? Each body piercer has their method and preference when recommending care to their client. In turn, Renata recommends cold brine 2 to 3 times a day, saline solution 3 to 4 times a day and avoiding fatty foods, such as pork, pepper and fish, mainly. Other excellent tips are: avoid touching the perforation, especially with a dirty hand; do not use any antiseptics and/or ointments; avoid beaches and swimming pools in the healing phase.
- How much does it cost to pierce a conch piercing? The value can vary greatly according to the professional, the material used and even the local competition. Renata Menoli, for example, works only with titanium and, due to this, the price varies from R$ 100 to R$ 120 for a jewel considered simple.
After these body piercer tips, I bet you are ready to get your conch piercing! If you want to take advantage of the courage that hit there and do more than one procedure, check out these mouth and nose piercing ideas.
