I never understood why in the third movie Harry, Ron and Hermione watch Buckbeak being killed from afar, but after that they use the time-turner and save Buckbeak. According to the movie’s logic, things that happen “in the future” during the use of the time-turner have already happened in the “present”, as we see when “Present Harry” sees “Future Harry” conjuring the Patronus he saved him and Sirius. That way, the Bigokey was never killed (because in the future he will be saved) and Harry/Ron/Hermione never saw him being killed. The sad face they make when they see Buckbeak being killed doesn’t make any sense if he wasn’t killed. Just as it makes no sense for Dumbledore to say right afterward that “more than one life can be saved” if Buckbeak never actually died.
