Bonus: Araquém Alcântara, the nature photographer who loves animals
In 2020, Araquém completes 50 years of dedication to Brazil and photography. Throughout this career, he was faced with dangers, close to wild animals, such as the jaguar, which could, due to defensive and territorial instincts, attack the photographer. Despite the risks, Araquém continued the work of documenting and protecting Brazilian nature, and is now a reference in the segment and a source of inspiration for new photographers.
He is the author of the photography book ‘Terra Brasil’, which records the exuberance of nature. The book was so successful that it was appointed as the best seller in the country of all time in this segment.
In 2009, Araquém received the Army’s most important commendation, the Military Merit Medal, for his work’s contribution to Brazilian culture.
The photographer often spent hours and hours without any clicks because he expected a particular animal to appear or stay in a position that would allow a better angle for the photo. In addition, unpredictable weather conditions and lack of light control also make it difficult for professionals to work in this field of photography.
In this sense, Araquém exercises patience, obstinacy and contemplation to achieve success in recording images of nature.
