Boring mothers raise successful daughters (Science guarantees it)

There is no handbook on how to raise children who will do well in life. However, Ericka Rascon-Ramirez, a professor at the University of Essex (UK), conducted a study that showed that demanding mothers manage to raise successful daughters. That’s why successful women have mothers that are, shall we say, more boring.

O awesome.club carefully studied this research and prepared a list of the advantages of having a “insufferable” big mom.

On many occasions, teenagers get irritated with their mothers’ “annoying” attitudes for being demanding. It is the case of those mothers who do not let their daughters go out whenever they want and force them to carry out their domestic activities. They are even envious of friends who have more approachable and carefree mothers. And if, after another fight, your mother says “you’ll thank me for this later”, pay attention: maybe she’s right.

Professor Ericka carried out a survey that followed the lives of 15,000 students aged 13 to 14 years. For 10 years, she studied the experiences of teenagers, sifted through the data and analyzed it. Based on the results obtained, Ericka came to the conclusion that the toughest and strictest mothers raise daughters who reach success more quickly than the girls of more “sweet” mothers.

He also discovered that nearly all successful people have tough, demanding mothers. The result is that the most viable path to success is to have a demanding mother.

The study did not focus on excessively tough mothers, those who control their daughters’ every move, forbidding them to do anything and using physical and mental abuse to do so. An “unbearable mother”, according to the research concept, is one who constantly gives instructions on future decision-making, warns about premature pregnancy and marriage, demands responsibility and demands help with household chores; he keeps track of his daughters’ time and sets certain goals for the future. In general, these mothers do everything that most teenage girls hate.

The teacher explained that strict mothers are very demanding with their children’s educational process, insist on obtaining better qualifications and set high goals.

Daughters end up growing up more sure of themselves and tend to be more resilient — more resistant to difficulties. Demanding motherhood is also reflected in the low probability of an unplanned, early pregnancy. Daughters of persistent and demanding mothers were 5% less likely to become pregnant prematurely.

Almost all the children of these mothers receive a better education and end up getting good jobs. In addition, these people were able to accelerate their professional progress. Ericka explained that Parents’ recommendations always influence their children’s decision-makingeven if, at first, they resist and refuse to accept it.

If a teenager respects her mother, even if she is upset, it is because she knows that she is absolutely right. Mothers often repeat the same information, which will remain in a teenager’s brain. So, in the future, she is more likely to absorb all the advice from this “boring”.

“In many cases, we do what we believe is most convenient for us, even when it goes against our parents’ wishes,” said the researcher. “But no matter how hard we try to avoid their recommendations, they are more likely to end up influencing our decisions.”

All parents, sooner or later, ask themselves the question: “How should I raise my child?” If children are raised too harshly, they distance themselves and start lying because they are afraid to tell the truth. This happens when parents demand that their child be perfect or insist on unconditional obedience. It’s a bad idea to base parent-child relationships on fear.

The important thing is to find the line of balance and easy communication, in which the children unconditionally trust their parents and see them as partners, but, at the same time, as references.
