A Love to Remember tells the story of Landon Carter’s teenager who needs a date for the dance and ends up inviting the pastor’s “weird” daughter Jamie.

When Landon asks her to the dance she imposes a condition: that he cannot fall in love with her. The task is apparently easy, but as we are in a romantic book we know that the coexistence between the two is responsible for ending all rational plans.

2. Call me by your name – André Aciman

Call Me By Your Name tells the story of one of those great summer loves that last. Set in Italy during the 1980s, it tells how Elio, a 17-year-old boy, falls in love with Oliver, an academic whom Elio’s father welcomes home to spend the summer and help him with his research.

3. Americanah – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Americanah tells the story of Ifemelu, a young Nigerian woman who moves to the United States to study. Change is not easy. In addition to prejudice, Ifemelu has to deal with the pain of moving away from Obinze, her great love.

4. Love in times of cholera – Gabriel Garcia Márquez

The book is based on the real story of the writer’s parents, where Florentino Ariza falls in love with Fermina Daza. The love is so strong that the protagonist even has symptoms similar to Cholera – a disease that was ravaging Colombia at the time the novel takes place.

The story begins with Tiffy, who needs to leave her ex-boyfriend’s apartment, until she finds an ad for Leon, a nurse who works at night. As they never meet, Tiffy and Leon begin exchanging messages through post-it notes that stick around the house. That is until they are forced to meet!

6. Wuthering Heights – Emily Bronte

The story begins when Mr. Earnshaw returns from a trip with a gypsy orphan: Heathcliff. However, he begins to suffer prejudice from other family members, but receives sympathy from Catherine. Over time they develop an overwhelming passion. However, she marries Edgar Linton for financial reasons.

Heathcliff leaves the region and returns years later, rich, determined to take revenge on everyone who made him suffer. After his return, the resentment in Heathcliff’s heart grows greater and greater and no one in the plot is forgiven.

7. Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen

The story of Pride and Prejudice revolves around the five Bennet sisters, who lived in rural England in the 18th century.

All daughters are under pressure to get married and Elizabeth feels this pressure too. Then she meets Mr. Darcy, but the difference in social class seems to be an obstacle for their love to develop. Furthermore, Mr. Darcy has an excessively reserved personality.

The love between the two coexists with these differences, suspicions and prejudices, bringing a beautiful portrait of the time in which they lived.

8. Dom Casmurro – Machado de Assis

One of the most important Brazilian works published, it tells the love story between Bentinho and Capitu. Throughout the work, Bentinho’s narration introduces elements of ambiguity, making the reader sometimes agree that she was cheating on him, or doubt it and believe that it is all in his head.

Added to this is the fact that Capitu and Bentinho have a son named Ezequiel, which leads the protagonist to imagine different possibilities in his head.

9. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight – Jennifer E. Smith

The plot lasts 24 hours and deals with love at first sight and focuses on how the two teenagers get to know each other during the flight to two different weddings in England. The involvement between the two is noticeable as the pages pass and the curiosity of what will happen after the plane lands only increases.
