Arrivals and Departures

Life is an eternal road full of ups and downs. It’s like a train station with arrivals and departures over which we have no control. Some of these arrivals and departures are permanent, others are temporary, however, this does not define the intensity of the relationships we build nor the depth of our love. Sometimes a person who has been in our life for six months means more than one who has been in our life for five years. Time measures moments, but not feelings.

Despite knowing that people come and go, still, we will never be prepared to win or lose, at least not when it comes to someone who is so dear to us.

Along our journey we meet different types of people. Some mark us too much, leave us eternal scars. Some come and stay forever. Others come and go without leaving a mark. Some don’t want to leave, but sometimes they have to. Others make no effort to stay. And there are still those that leave only a longing that, despite being a longing, doesn’t hurt.

Be that as it may, each person has their purpose in our life, even when we don’t know what it means. I once read the following sentence: “every person who passes in our life, leaves a piece of themselves and takes a piece of us”, this is one of the truest sentences I’ve ever read. We are the junction of all those who were somehow ours and we donate, even if involuntarily, a piece of ours to those who decide to follow a different path.

We can easily get used to winning people, but we will hardly know how to deal with losses, no matter how many of them happen along the road, it will always feel like the first time.

So, I think that after so many arrivals and departures I can say: if you want to come into my life, feel free, the door is open. If you want to take up residence in my heart I will certainly receive you with great affection. But only enter if you’re going to stay. It’s not a temporary stay here, it’s a permanent home.
