A poem for my best friend

I’ve always been good with words. They reach me easily and flow from my fingertips like raindrops and float on my tongue like a sunflower dances in the wind.

But there are rare occasions when I see them just disappear… there’s one thing in particular, or rather one person in particular, that I can’t find adequate words to describe.

Friends came and went from my life like ships that disappear over the horizon of the sea, but you remained my constant. Although there was a time when it felt like there was an ocean of silence between us. But we proved to be inseparable.

Like magnets, we found our way back to each other. Nothing could keep us apart.

You are the calm in my storm. Yes, you are the only source of peace in my dark and stormy mind. His voice dries my tears and his embrace soon became my shield. Your words lick my wounds and your presence is my safe haven.

We talk so much about soulmates and finding the person who will stay by your side forever, but I know I’ve already found him. And he’s the smartest man I know; he has a heart of gold and a sense of humor to rival Trevor Noah’s… he is you. And, man… I know I’ll never love another human being as much as I love you.

I can only hope that the man I marry one day is at least half the man you are; but no one will ever be you to me.

It’s only you who can be my person.

I pray to God everyday that you never leave me because deep down I know you don’t need me and I don’t need you. But living without you in my life is a life I don’t want to live.
