A 93-year-old woman sells knitted shoes on the street to survive, and her effort is admirable

There are many hidden stories behind the elderly. The experience they share with the people around them is a great legacy, and there are always many things to learn from their experiences. However, life is complex and many of them are involved in circumstances that force them to find a way to survive on their own. Abilia, a 93-year-old woman, sells knitted baby shoes on the street. She has dedicated her whole life to working hard so that nothing is missing and, despite her years, she does not give up and continues to fight against the adversities that come her way.

Tessy Morote, a Peruvian citizen, shared with awesome.club the story of this exemplary woman, who is a great inspiration for many, because, without a doubt, it shows that it doesn’t matter what age or situation you find yourself in… what really matters is having the will to live.

Two years ago, Tessy shared Abilia’s story in a post on her Facebook page. More than 132,000 people reacted to the story and were moved by this lady’s effort. Though Tessy saw her daily sitting on a stool, her little shoes on a small tarp on the floor, the only thing that came to mind was the question of why a woman like her even had to work, and she wondered what the reasons might be. reasons that motivated her to do so.

After a while, Tessy decided to approach the lady to talk and find out more about her history. Mrs. Abilia told him that she was born on June 30, 1924. From a very young age, she was a hardworking person and had a shop in the market. There she sold pieces that she bought from other seamstresses. For many years, this trade allowed her to keep going, and she loved helping other women so they could do the same.

The work that Mrs. Abilia did every day involved all her effort and dedication. Although her intention was to continue helping others, life surprised her and forced her to stop all her activities. Unfortunately, one day, while working at her little shop, she fell and broke her hip, which forced her to stop working for a while. When she had the opportunity to get back to her routine, she was told that the place where she had her business had been sold and so she was left with nothing.

However, all was not lost as she continued to trust and struggle to find a solution. What disturbed her most was that the ladies in charge of supplying her with the goods would be out of work and would not have the opportunity to sell their wares. One day, lying in her bed, about to fall asleep, she made a decision that would change everything. “I was born a street vendor, and a street vendor I will die”, she told herself. Mrs. Abilia thought no more and embarked on a new adventure to continue working.

Instead of considering it an unfortunate event, she saw in such circumstances a new opportunity and prepared to continue selling in the street the shoes that other women made.

Tessy was very surprised to see such a strong person struggling to achieve her goals despite her age. There were many emotions that she felt when she saw her, and her example taught her a great lesson, because she found a great inspiration in the woman not to surrender to the adversities of life.

After that, Tessy shared the story of Mrs. Abilia and went to see her several times to buy her shoes, because although she didn’t need them, she wanted to help her in some way. In fact, she has a pair on a shelf at her house, so you can remember and know that anything is possible when you want to do something. This woman’s captivating smile is the best way to say thank you for the recognition people give her.

“When I met her, so shy but at the same time lucid, I realized that everything depends on the will to live. I think she crossed my path to teach me to value and understand that I should move on despite the circumstances, because at the time I met her, I was also going through complicated situations with my son’s health. It only felt right to share her story so everyone knows about it,” said Tessy.

Often, we don’t pay much attention to what really matters. We are so immersed in everyday life that we forget the simplest but most significant details. Mrs. Abilia showed that the key to everything is perseverance, courage and creativity, and the will to live. “The state of abandonment in which some elderly people find themselves is very unfair. They’ve already done a lot for us and society, they’re just looking for a little support and to feel useful in some way, because they don’t want to be a burden on anyone,” Tessy pointed out.

Although she tried to visit her often, one day she lost sight of her and never heard from her again. Now, every time she walks down that street, he can only remember and maintain the illusion of seeing her again, because, without a doubt, meeting her left an important mark on her life.
